Hey there ,
I am taking a belated spring break going to Yucatan, Mexico from April 4th to 10th from NYC. Places I'm covering are Valladolid (chichen itza), merida (uxmal) and finally the nice relaxing white sand beach in cancun .
Mayan archaeology, grand ruins and some pure beach fun. Not bad for few days, I suppose. I wish I could have made it a whole week trip and cover some other less explored areas like Palenque or Bonampak, but my boss wouldn't let me go for so long :-(

Any other gringo hitting the same part of the planet at the same time ?

Let's chat then, we could exchange itineraries, meeting up there and having some travel and fun together.

Welcome to the board! You have an incredibly ambitious itinerary! Merida is about 5 hours from the Cancun airport, just drove it recently. Uxmal is beautiful, it is even further away. I really don't see how you could do all that in 5 days, but good luck and have fun!

That is a very ambitious trip. The last trip we spent three days in Valladolid alone. If you are into the Mayan history you are going to love Uxmal. It's easily an hour and a half each way to Merida from Uxmal being that you have traffic to deal with in Merida. It is a whole day by itself. We spent a day there and I'm interested in going back for another look. It is a large site. The stonework is some of the finest in any site. While you are in Merida see if you can get into the government building on the plaza to see the murals. Sometiimes you can get in sometimes not but it is a fantastic and somewhat disturbing display of the history of the Mayan conquest and the Spanish takeover.
You're going to have to go way south of Cancun to find most LG'ers.
