We are condo folks but we are thinking of trying an AI day pass this year so our boys can swim in a big pool and try some water activities. Just wondering if anyone has done the day pass route and which AI they would recommend. We are looking for a nice big pool for the kids, a nice beach - snorkeling isn't mandatory since we will be doing enough of that in Akumal/lagoon, but maybe some wave/boogie boarding action, kayak rental might be fun. Is it worth it to do an AI for the day?

Good question ! How old are the boys ? If they are younger than 18, that will rule out the "adults only" resorts. Depending on the resort, I have seen day pass costs ranging from US$50 per person on up to about $75 per person. For 4 people, that gets pretty expensive !

If you can name some resorts that might interest you, perhaps some others can give you more details as to day pass prices and what activities might be available to your gang.

Thanks for asking....the boys are 5 & 7 so an "adults only" is definitely out of the question.

I've looked at a bunch of the AI's around Akumal/Tulum but none of them list the day pass price. There is only very limited information searching the forums.

We were hoping that they had a discounted price for the kids since I can't imagine that they would charge the full adult rate for the kids but maybe they do??

Yes, it will be an expensive day but not as expensive as staying at an AI for the whole trip. We like to have a little privacy from the kids so we would need adjoining rooms or a suite and those rooms are very pricey at an AI.

As far as I know there are no waves in the area other than a small break over the reef which you should avoid. Any other surf is probably on ironshore. The weather has to be pretty lousy for surf to show up.
I did body surf shorties in PDC a long while back but not these days.
