I know this is superficial - but we are hiring a professional photographer to take some family shots. I have VERY thick / high maintenance hair. My sister has Nichole Kidman type curls too. Is there a salon in Akumal that we can get our hair blown out? I don't remember seeing one.

I have super thick hair that is not straight and not curly. I have to force it whichever direction seems like it will be preferable based on the environment, etc. My hair is extremely high maintenance also, and the closest it gets to looking good/normal is when it is dirrty because it settles it down some how.

I don't know anything about the local hair salon situation in Q Roo.

You don't mention if your hair is short or long? My hair is shoulder length naturally but I add extensions to make it look less course, and a little longer and it helps SO much.

There are a lot of different ways to add extensions, and despite a lot of rumors if you did correctly it will not at all damage your hair. In fact, hair extensions can be used as a protective style.

I have used extensions the last few times I have been on vacation (I don't cover my hair, I blend the extensions in). Once I have added them in, my overall hairstyle is extremely low maintenance. Most every article you read states be sure to use 'quality human hair.' But the TRUTH is, that synthetic hair is FABULOUS for the conditions of rain, wind, snow.....you name it. The reason is because it is synthetic, the style is predetermined and unaffected by humidity or anything else. You can choose curly, wavy, straight.....and there are a lot of ways to install it and super easy to remove.

I also use a hat during the sun, to help protect and keep sun off my face.

I realize I took your question down a rabit hole that you probably were not expecting. However, if you are interested, PM me. You can always watch a few youtube videos because it is so easy a child could do it! I first read about it in a hair magazine where the girl stated in an article that adding a track or two of hair extensions can help out any style and I have found that to be SO true.

Good luck!

Tried to send you another PM. I am currently using Perfect Locks hair. They are AWESOME, have a tremendous following with positive reviews, the hair is gorgeous. Every time I look at it I think ohhhhhh this is so delicious. I am currently using their virgin wavy 18 and 22 inch . It is a bit more expensive than some beauty supply store hair, but it can be reinstalled multiple times and lasts a long time.

www.perfectlocks.com

They have a huge variety of styles to choose from. You could get a sew in, wear your hair is braided and this is sewn into the braids. This gives you brand new virgin hair and a style that (even though it has to be taken care of, wrapped at night, etc use leave in conditioner) maintains itself pretty well. The PM I was trying to leave you was to let you know I have some time this afternoon to talk on the phone, so just hit me back and let me know. Otherwise, check out Perfect Locks.

Or you could do what I have resisted doing in many, many trips to the Caribbean:

Go getcha some Bo Derek braids

I have learned to embrace my "Mexican" hair. It's all one length now so I don't
consider it high maintenance. If I had bangs...it would not be pretty

At the bottom of the overpass on the pueblo side you take the first street to the left (south) and then the first street to the right and about half way up that block on the right hand (north) side is the salon. It's the street that leads up the hill to the gates of the school. That is if it hasn't moved in the last 3 years or so.

Agustin's wife does hair and would probably come to the condo to blow you out. She doesn't speak English, but Agustin can translate. Also, a picture of what you want your hair to look like when she is done would be a very good idea. Agustin is the office manager at Playa Caribe. I must add here that I have never had her do my hair, so this is just a suggestion.

Enjoy your stay!

Jen from Turtle Bay Cafe organized a hair stylist for me when we had our photo shoot. She was pretty good, and not expensive either. I believe her name was Nora. You could email Jen ahead of time and see if she can arrange that for you.
