Has anyone used "Skedattle" bug spray in Akumal? I purchased it last year from "Mexitan" when I was purchasing their biodegradable sunscreen. It's "100% all natural anti-bug spray" that is also biodegradable. I didn't need it in PDC last year so I haven't tried it yet. LGr's have posted everything from "not needed" to "something with deet", but I haven't read anything about Skedattle.

Thanks W4M, I'll bring along something stronger--just in case. quote:
ORIGINAL: Wanderlust4Mexico I've never used this brand, but have used a similar one with same ingredients. I found that it didn't work at all. At least at home it didn't work. My area has been invaded with the Asian Tiger Mosquito. If you're not familiar......just think of Mosquitos on steroids. The only thing that works is Deet.

Has anyone else used the OFF mini fans? We use those when we are eating outside and they work great. Just clip it on your pants or set it under the table. They redesigned them a year ago and they are even smaller now. We take a couple of those and the refills and have no issues.

Off bug fan, yes! The Skedattle does not work.

We have used Skedattle and found that it works. It also smells nice and doesn't leave a sticky residue.

Like most products, it appears that skedattle works for some, but not others. I'll bring it--along with "skintastic," which is an "Off" product that also has sunscreen. We won't need the sunscreen since we'll be using at night, but we have it, and it works for us, so we might as well bring it for backup. I'll try to post my experience with skedattle while I'm there. It's nice to know that "Off" is offered if we do forget to apply before we head out.

I've posted about this product many times on here. I've been using it for about 10 yrs and it's fantastic. I can't use anything with DEET, I'm highly allergic. I've used Skeedattle in tropical destinations and at home, rain forests, jungles, botanical gardens, all times of the day, at a luau at dusk on the beach, etc., etc. On a few trips the chemical stuff was still leaving our travel buddies getting chewed up and then everyone started using my Skedattle. I've left bottles with people in Akumal on several trips after having dinner on the beach and them using it and not getting chewed up. It also smells ok. It has a very light vanilla citrus sort of scent. Maybe it depends on your body chemistry to start with as to how effective it is. Unprotected I get bitten by anything that bites. It works for me. You can get a small bottle if you want to try it. It's not a huge investment and if it works for you, it's much healthier (for you and the environment) then the heavy chemicals in OFF, Autun or any other commercial brand.

I would also give Skeedattle a thumbs up, maybe it is that body chemistry thing I would say though that it does not last as long as a deet product though but when it smells that good I don't mind applying more often

Well, perfumes can smell different on other people, so my vote would be the body chemistry thing,

First report on using Skedattle. We went to Gynn' Ak for dinner last night (7ish), and neither got bitten. Not sure if that was because ofthe Skedattle, or if they just weren't biting, but will keep using unless they do begin to bite. We've got an "Off" product for back up that we take along.
