I need to make a decision today before leaving for a weekend trip. I know I still have 4+ months til the trip, but I'm afraid if I don't hurry up and get this booked it will be too late.

We have always stayed at VDM condos/studios. In July we have decided to do something different. I'm deciding between the Vista rooms at Hotel Akumal Caribe and a 1 bdrm condo at Playa Caribe. I know... there is no way to compare these properties.

A few questions for those of you that frequent Playa Caribe, especially #5:
1) Does the master have a bathtub? I think they all do but just wanted to clarify. I couldn't find a photo anywhere.
2) I know the beds at VDM are bricks. Any comparison to Playa Caribe?
3) Anyone know how much pool noise #5 gets?

Thanks for the help.

We have stayed at 2 different PC units and the beds are awesome.

We always stay top floor, but I have never noticed much noise from the pool.

Tub? That I do not remember. Sorry!

They are really top notch units though. I love VDM also, but PC is the high class uppity cousin.

Playa Caribe is different than HAC or VDM. It is a spectacular property. I think with the individual decorating that the owners put into the units makes it stand by itself. The staff is great. We try and stay 2-4 weeks a year in a casita there. Going again in a few weeks. I don't think you can compare to HAC which is a hotel. At PC you can drink the water right out of the tap. The beds are not your typical concrete platforms.

Have stayed at Playa Caribe twice. Once in 5 once in 7.
I have no idea about tubs. No need for mattress toppers, comfortable beds which are rare in Mexico. Few people around the pool, which is small. Both units were 2 bedroom with the 2nd bedroom having the option of being locked off. If you're just taking the one bedroom I don't know if that would be bothersome if it were rented out to a loud snorer or partier or something. . Maybe you'll get both bedrooms. All in all a very nice condo, you will do more walking or bking than staying at HAC, if you do spend lots of time in Akumal...which can be a good thing. Unless you have little kids.

We've stayed in PC dozens of times ... it was home away from home while we were building our house. The staff is wonderful, especially Agustin. #5 is a great unit -- middle floor, middle unit, and I believe a tub. PM PC5 for more details.

I've stayed at #5 and #6 - Both awesome.

The sounds of the waves are the only thing you'll hear. I believe there is a tub and beds are perfect.

The pool is usually empty so no noise issues. PC does not rent out the second bedroom to anyone else if you are renting a unit as a one bedroom. We booked a one bedroom for a month but we have the option of renting the second bedroom if we want so our friends will come to join us and use the second bedroom for two weeks. We will be in unit 8 above unit 5, which was already booked .

Thanks to all of you who shared your experiences at Playa Caribe.

Yes, the units have shower/tub in both bathrooms.

I like the beds and I am a real "princess and the pea" type.

I love being able to drink the water from the tap.

Noise depends on who is there. Occasionally, a family will not monitor an unruly child in the pool or some drunk people are noisy, but this is not the norm. I always take my ipod and earphones just in case.

Fidget- I am so sorry we filled up before you could make your reservation.
Rigney Family- Enjoy your stay!
SBR, We hope to see you and Eddie in August.
Panesh- You spend more time at Playa Caribe than I do!
SDog- The locked off room won't be rented.
Crunch, The top floor is part of your weight loss and exercise plan(?)

We will be staying in PC5 for the second time in May. We came there last year after several days in a cabana in Tulum with no AC and a trickle for a shower. We joked that we were like the Beverly Hillbillies arriving at the mansion for the first time. It was our first condo experience in Mexico and we loved it. Totally comfortable, wonderful staff and amazing views. Yes, beds are great. Annie, we can't wait for May 16.

Actually, we stayed in PC11 twice as a 1 bedroom rental (wonderful condo) and one time we found they had rented the 2nd bedroom to someone for a night. There is a completely separate entrance just for the 2nd bedroom. Although they were separate from the rest of our condo, I didn't like it. Not sure if that is standard practice or if all of the 2BRs have two entrances, but I though it was kind of odd.

So are you guys saying that one can rent the unit as a one bedroom only at a discounted rate?

May have to seriously consider this once again. It's a lovely place. Has anyone who's stayed there lately used the wifi. Any issues?

The wifi issue was fixed a long time ago. There was a problem two years ago for a week or two but they did everything they could. I was there. We didn't have a problem getting a connection somewhere while they sorted it out. They just don't have the infrastructure we do. I have gone back and still consider it my favorite place, and yes I need an internet connection to be able to go for as long as we do. Back again in four weeks.

It was down the 10 day entire stay three years ago and a big problem for me as I must take my work with me when I go down.
Just wondering if anyone who's been down in the last while has had any long term issues. Unfortunately, it's a deal breaker for me.

Like I said I've been back there since then with no problems.
It's actually getting harder to make a res.

I'm fairly sure I read on a trip report, lately, that someone had a problem but I can't find it now. That's why I asked. I needed to know if it was long term.

In November the Wifi worked just fine. I think it was out one time the whole week and Tomas figured out a way to sign on differently or something and then it was fine.

So good to hear such positive things about Playa Caribe. We're staying in unit #2 in April. Since all the plans I saw of the premises showed unit #2 as a 2 bedroom, I was wondering how they handled renting the unit as a 1 bedroom, That would be a major drag if they rented the other bedroom separately.
