I will be taking a small group (4-10 depending on who shows up) from the Royal in Cancun on a trip to Akumal, Tulum, Tulum beach, Sian Kaan, then back to Cancun - an all day trip for either Saturday or Sunday. Of course my preference would be to stay in Akumal instead of Cancun but since the company is paying the tab, I stay there. (plus the Royal is swank!)
Anyhooo, I'd sure appreciate advice on transporting the group for each segment as economicly as possible. Thanks!

We like USA transfers, I'd check with them.

Hire a van with driver for the day, don't go on Sunday, would be my advice. Sunday is the local's day off and lots of places are more crowded that day.

First of all, I want your job. Second of all, you'll barely be able to finish your beer at each location with that much ground to cover. Third, check with USA Transfer.

Just driving to the Sian Ka'an would not be on my agenda. There is nothing to see except empty beaches, no services, etc.

Thanks everyone for your responses. How would we go about hiring a van and driver? and, what would appropriate pay for that be?

Let's try it again. USA Transfers or iTour Mexico are both good options. Google my friend, Google. You can email, compare prices, pay in advance, set it all up online and they will be waiting at your hotel on the day you reserve.

Tis true! Google is our friend! But, experience is the best teacher and I was kinda relying on the good nature of this community to point me in the best direction.

I have contacted USA Transfer and it looks like we'll be able to work something out.

Thanks again, everyone!

USA is a good company, only used them for airport transfers, but they have been in business for 14 years or more. The parent company is Entertainment Plus, and while I have never booked an excursion, many on this board have used them for private trips with good results.
Have a great trip

Yikes.....that's a lot to cram in to one day......especially factoring in driving time.

Maybe you can just rent a van for one day. We always rent and driving is very easy. We have never had a problem.

Easyway will even pick you up at your hotel.

We had group of 10 last time we staying in Akumal and rented a 12 passenger van for the week from Easy Way -- we named her Sylvia the Silver Bullet and it worked great!

With that day you'll spend more time driving than we do on a vacation and that's a lot! Sounds like at least 6 hours of driving around (probably closer to 8). From the Zona to Tulum is at least two hours each way (it takes 30 minutes to get through the traffic to the airport) Going to Sian will take another hour each way if you stop anywhere.
We're hoping to get from Chetumal to Flores in just over that time in a few weeks.
Another vote for iTour. Marco can hook you up.

Easyway car rentals has an option to hire a driver for a day on their website. You can rent a van with or without a driver. Check it out. May be a good option. I would just drive myself but everyone is different.

Cheers!

Doug

I found a driver and van (10 passenger) that cost me $200 USD for 10 hours. With four couples on the trip, it ended up being only $25/person. I thought that was VERY reasonable.

Mini trip report:

Arrived Thursday evening and swam in the beautiful ocean water for an hour before sunset (red flag).
Friday: Rained all Day
Saturday: Our trip to Akumal - AWESOME
Sunday: Overcast with Gale force winds all day. Free dermabrasion treatment to all brave enough to venture onto the beach.
Monday: Bright, calm and beautiful as we boarded the bus at 8am for our return flight.

OB who did you use? We'll be staying in Playacar in June and have a group of 7-10 to take to the Jungle Place and possibly stop at a cenote on the way back.
