We are headed down to the CRT in 10 days (YAY!).. This will be our 4th time down there, and I was wondering if there were any suggestions as to activities we should do, that we hadnt yet visited, or if we should just do/go to one we had previously done again. I know that this is completely subjective, and there were some similar topics in the past, but I had to throw this out there again based on what we had already visited..

so far we have done-
Xel-Ha
Xcaret
Jungle Jims ATV tour (3x)
Hidden Worlds

Ya, ya! All that stuff is for the newbies!

Now if you really want to have some fun....try some of these!!!

Ride a wild turtle
Swim with the dolphins
Feed fish bread until they explode
Kill and make your own turtle soup
Make your very own custom coral necklace

Ohhhh this list goes on and on......

BINK!

I've always been intrigued with the underwater yoga I've been hearing about. I'm not sure who has that in the Akumal area.

Other than that, CrocoCun and Aktun Chen are fun and lower-cost activities we have enjoyed there.

Have you gone to Yal Kul Lagoon... best $8 you'll spend for snorkeling ever... It's at the end of the point north of Akumal.. You pass La Buena Vida, Half moon bay and park at the designated lot on the left. It's a public lagoon and it's spectacular. $8 or $9 to snorkel all day with gear. We've seen rays, barracuda's, turtles and gigantic schools of fish.

We havent been there yet (Yal Kul).. Had a hard time dragging the other people we were with out to go snokeling last time we were down there, so just ended up with my better half in Akumal Bay.. But that is something we had wanted to do, and hopefully we can hit this time.. We only tend to do 1 or 2 activities besides enjoy the sun and sand each trip, but I just want to make sure we don't miss anything that is worth doing..

I've always wanted to visit the Jungle Place, but judging by your ticker, too late for you this trip, you have to book about 3 months in advance. As an alternative, if you have a car or hire a taxi for the day, is visit Punta Laguna to see the monkeys - maybe combine with a visit to Coba ruins as they are kind of near each other. Don't think the bus goes to Punta Laguna.

CRT I want to go there some day....

Here's a thought, go south on Xpu-ha beach, (I think the main beach is south of your resort?) there's a great dive shop there (and of course the name escapes me!), book a snorkel boat tour.

I also want to do the Fat Cat (Catamaran) some day. Okay, that didn't sound right. I want to BOOK the Fat Cat. lol

Try a cenote on your own. Zacil-ha was great and the last time we went, we had the whole place to ourselves.

Sample the local culture. Don't just stay in the touristy areas. Walk the streets in maybe Chemuyil or Akumal pueblo. It's important to get your beach time but there is so much more to love besides the resorts.

shadowcat - yup, CRT meaning Catalonia Royal Tulum.. The hidden worlds we did was http://www.locogringo.com/past_spotlights/may2010/avatar_roller-coaster_zipline.html

Thanks for the suggestions.. I know some people have a differing personal opinions on this, but we love to go down there and relax at the resort for most of our stay. I understand there is a lot of culture and outdoor activities to do down there, but we are a little boring and like to hang out and recharge on our vacations on the amazing beach. To me, a trip to Mexico is nice because we can venture out to take in what makes the area so beautiful and unique when we want to, while still having the relaxation/comfort of the resort to fall back on when we want to take in some vitamin D. I know it takes away from some of the other wonders of the area, but we have typically stuck to the touristy type activities since it is a little less stressful to have someone else plan.. Once I start to be a little more brave, i am sure my eyes will be opened to everything we are missing..
