The stars and planets aligned and circumstances worked out in such a way that my turtle saving amigo y amiga Mariano and Sofia found themselves at our home in Pennsylvania. In February. The story how this came about HERE if you haven't seen it.

They arrived here Sat. am via a car I sent for them. The bus would have taken 6+ hours and I couldn't see them suffering thru that and cutting into our short time together. After settling in a bit and a few Sam Adams they wanted to go out to play in the snow.

How do I make a snowball?

They figured it out pretty quickly and I also demonstrated a body slam into the snow which also caught on right away!
VIDEO

Poor little Sofia was covered with snow in short order.

I don't think my camera works in this cold....

They took a liking to the Nat Geo flag I have hanging from our deck. Go figure.

They started out to build a snowman but it ended up being a snow turtle. No surprise there.

Video of the snow turtle. They both need to keep their real jobs.
VIDEO

They just couldn't get enough of that flag. I'll have to find another one to take down to them.

The rest of that day and evening was spent with jokes and stories and lies and beer. They got to meet our son, DIL, and granddaughters.Jessica and Rebecca really took a liking to them after some initial shyness. They now want to go to Mexico with us more than ever. Their mommy asked TOES, "Are all of your friends in Mexico that nice?" You guys know the answer to that question. I think Mariano's rising from his seat when she entered the room sealed that one.

Damn kids and their phones......

We all had dinner at a nice little place just down the street and around the corner. No food porn here, it wasn't around long enough!

After a comfortable night of sleep in the girls bunk beds.....yes, bunk beds(they said they were quite comfy ).....it was time to ski. Obviously living in a warm climate, many layers were needed.

Gearing up to go.

Went to a little local hill. Sofia opted for no lesson so I taught her the basics.

Clicking in.

Ready to roll!

Despite a number of these Sofia did great for her 1st time.

Stylin:

A happy crew.

Snow Bunny In Training!

Some action vids. Mariano on the edge of control....

VIDEO

Mariano on his 1st ever blue run. The boy needs to work on his speed control.....lol...

VIDEO

Sofia learning the ropes and doing quite well.

VIDEO

More Sofia. By the end of the day she showed huge improvement for the half-assed instruction and no experience she was working with. Very proud of her, no fear at all.
VIDEO

Rough day, man I'm tired!

Sofia had a bit of an issue that night. No big deal, I attribute it to improper boot fit.

After skiing we met TOES and the kids at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I'm happy to report they found it quite good and the food authentic Mexican. They rather enjoyed being able to get Tecate and Pacifico as well.
Like I said before- no food porn. We don't take pics, We EAT!!

The rest of that night was spent with many liquid refreshments and plenty of stories and good times. I even managed to find an important futbol game with Mariano's favorite team on the tube which totally made his day!

We left for Montana early the next morning while they were still sleeping. TOES' mom made sure they got to the station to catch their bus to NYC a few hours later.

What a great time and whirlwind of a weekend, I'm so glad we were able to pull it off and I know they are too. We'll all be talking and laughing about this for years to come. What memories.

It really was an awesome 2 days. The smiles never stopped. The ski day was a perfect blue bird day with lots of sun and comfortable temps. We really enjoyed having them here to share a bit of our culture. Before this the only time we ever see each other is on the beach, usually dripping in sweat and covered in sand while chasing turtles. This was such a cool change. So glad we could pull it off.

I forgot to mention that Mariano brought along a collection of t-shirts for me to add to my collection, all turtle related of course. I'm wearing one today. I managed to sneak one of my Flyers shirts into his bag when he wasn't looking.

I got an e-mail from Mariano today. We're all still positively giddy from this fun time.

He is now a Flyers fan and wants to attend a game next time. He tried to get tix to a Devils-Flyers game while in NYC but they were sold out. Another convert!

HAHAHA!!! You know better than that smartass! I've been skiing a lotta years, it just comes naturally at this point. Mariano called me a professional. Lol......not hardly.

We may get the girls there sooner than we thought. This visit really went a long way to opening mommy's eyes and mind as to what the place and people are really like. Her preconceived notions took a big hit.and she now seems much more receptive to the idea. We'll see......
BTW- They still remember the underwater signals you taught them way back when.

Bosco- I'd be happy to teach you. Come on up if you can keep yourself off of the beach long enough!
