Not that I really needed a reason to take a trip but since I turned 55 in Jan I called this one our Double Nickle Celebration. Actually it was a combined Birthday / Anniversary & get away alone trip. Last yr we did 2 seperate trips to QROO o e with family & other with friends. This was our 9th trip here sin e 1st coming in 2004. Have been to Grand Cayman which is nice but expensive & Negril Jamacia which was ok but not for us.

So as usual I booked our flight several months in advance. 8 to be exact. Since we were using flier miles I started early to ensure we could get decent flights. In the past using miles we always had to change planes so.ewhere. this time we got lucky & got direct both ways. We fly out of Minneapolis so we do a park & fly deal staying the night before. We had a 6:10 AM out arrival Cancun 10:15 schedule. Trip went great arriving ahead if schedule by 35 minutes.

From the time we walked off the plane to going thrum customs / immagration / getting luggage & out the door was 25 minutes. We have never gone thrum all that so fast. We were basically the only plane of people at that time. We travelled on Sunday Jan 27 returned on Fri Feb8th. We ha e been using USA transfers our past few trips & found the Rep & were loaded up on our way in another 10 min.

We rent a condo in Puerto Aventuras. We enjoy the large pool & nice quiet beach area there. Walking distance to the Chedrua store on the highway & take a taxi back for 50 pesos. We like fixing a couple of meals during our stay & eat out rest of the time. We had a great meal of bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp onthe grill one night. Fish another & chicken a 3rd. Went to Plays Del Carmen for an evening meal taking collectivo both ways. We travel a lot using the collectivos as we do not mind walking.

I like walking around P.A. roads & golf course early in the AM. Wife joined me a couple mornings though she prefers to sleep in. On 1 morning together though we came upon 4 spider monkeys. Was fun watching them. Another morning we saw a small ant eater. And another morning we found the small little Mayan ruin hidden between P.A. & Barcello resort. Was pretty cool.

We did our usual couple of trips to Akumal beach. Again. Collectivo from PA. Cost $2 per person. We were approached on our way to the beach by dive shop people to watch a video etc. We ignored them & proceeded to the beach. Wife did not snorkle so I went out alone. Yes I used a vest. Finally found the cannons over by cannon house. Saw some rays & my favorite the turtles. I love watching them. We got there early in the day around 8:30. Glad we did cause by 10 the beach & water was packed. We have never experienced so many people there before. Not sure if it was the fact the previous. Couple days had been high winds / red flag type days & everyone was taking advatange of calm water or what.

We had lunch at Lol Hol. Wife likes their chilling cheese fries. A brief shower hit while we were eating. Was fun watching people scramble for cover. We hit the little shops on our way out & got a few things for around our patio / pool area here back home.

We finally did a day trip to the south Tulum beach. Took collectivo to the San Fransico Market where we grabbed a taxi to O.M. beach bar for a starting point. What a magnificent stretch of beach. We headed north stopping at La Zebra for a cerveca. We continued on stopping at Ziggy's for lunch. We both had great meals. We slowly worked our way north to where the rock outcropping is. We cut over to the road & right away a taxi comic g by picked us up. I negotiated a deal for a ride back to P.A.to our condo. We were both tired from walking all day so we skipped the collectivo ride. We for sure will make this day trip an annual event.

We spent most of our days hanging around the pool in the sun reading. Of course work interruptions were a daily occurance. I soooo look forward to retirement when I can truely get away to relax without work issues following. I realize if it were not for my job we most likely would not be able to take these trips it's just would be nice to be able to not have to deal with work issues while away.

Overall we had a great trip. Weather was really good all but 1 day out of 12 not bad. Food & drink was good. Nobody got sick. We really had the best time ever together away. We are already talking of our 2014 return. We find the QROO to be a great area to vacation.

Happy Birthday and Anniversary! Thanks for sharing a great report. We are leaving in 10 days and the Tulum beach day is a must do for us this year too.
