I remember someone on LG posting pics of a really bad reaction her son had to a henna tattoo. Shocked me. I don't know how common it is but make sure your friend researches this before getting it done. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1920722/

I found out a long time ago that these are not Henna. Henna is a dark brown color, and takes several applications before it is done. These fake tats are black hair dye, which can be toxic to alot of people, especially kids.

ORIGINAL: 1runjuan Hi-this is DW of 1runjuan. Some people do have reactions to Henna, but rarely. There are some shops (as someone posted) that don't use "real" Henna, but have additives to make it darker and last longer (toxic). If you know what the product is, you should be safe. They will typically last about a week, if you take care of them. I have some way cool pix of Henna and temporary body ink (which is what I use), if you want to see some creative ideas let Juan know. Rebecca Hi Rebecca, Can you give me any details about the "temporary body ink" please? Such as a brand name or a source for it ? Yes, I will google it too, but would appreciate hearing about it from someone who has actually used it. That product sure sounds a lot safer than some concoction of unknown chemicals ! Thanks, AnotherBob Hi there-the product is Colorini, sold at www.shopglittertattoos.com - they also sell body glitter and stencils. I bought Indian Brown and black and mixed a tiny bit of black to give it "henna" tones. Also, on Facebook there are groups you can join: Colorini; Freehand Glitter Body Art; and I Love Glitter Tattoos. There are good tutorials on YouTube that the owners post. Find: Colorini, Tal Soriano, Dara Lightle, and Santiago Massano. I also found a guy who will do custom stencils reasonably. Some start with the ink stencil and add glitter (if that's your thing) Let me know what you find! Rebecca

Please be sure your tat is dry before coming in contact with towels or bed linens. We had renters at our Cozumel property ruin a new set of sheets when they smeared their not quite dry tattoo all over.

I posted about my son having a reaction about 3 years ago - to 2 tattoos we had gotten at the Bahia. The ingredient they expect he reacted to was PPD as outlined in SchnauzerDog's link. Lots of people aren't allergic to it - and reactions seem to also vary by exposure. So - if my son had gotten 1 tattoo, he may have been OK - perhaps it was the second one that increased his sensitivity. The first tattoo rash healed faster than the second which took a couple months to go away and we were using a topical prescription cream the whole time. His friend - same two tattoos - no reaction and they were done minutes a part with the same ink. The more exposure to PPD you have the more likely a reaction in the future - others are more sensitive right away.
