Back at work today after a long day yesterday. Ended the trip dancing in the streets at Carnaval (1/2 hour behind the salsa dancers will make your legs rubber) - with Debs and james from London. Met them at Mayan Beach Gardens in El Placer and talked them into the big dance. After a couple days at Punta Sur park, they strolled up at Villa Blanca, about the only time we were poolside. It was late before we got back, and had a 4:15 wake up call to catch the 6:00AM car ferry back to Calico. To make our flight, the next ferry would have been to close. Plus it was a while at the car rental. I blew a tire and the spare the day we went up into the Sian Kaan to snorkel the shipwreck. Ric from LA and Marguarite got a ride back to MBG from a mexican family (5 in the cab and 4 in the bed), and returned just before dark with another spare. Ric rented the same Nissan Tiida. How lucky was that???? There were no other vehicles that came by in the next 1 1/2 hours. No luck the next day in Mahahual at the llanteria (tried 4 places), so it was 30 km back to MBG for breakfast and then into Chetumal for 2 tires and a rim. At American Car rental, I was sweating the spare as it was not the same donut size, but the mgr finally OKed it. I was more concerned about the bumper and quarter panel that I glued back to hold it in place. 3M has good adhesives. I wanted to make sure I was getting back the full 15000 peso deposit.
So I think I'll do a trip report in chapters: Aventuras Akumal, Bacalar, San Pedro, Xcalak, El Placer, Cozumel - but probably start with a thing at Carnaval.
It's gonna take a bit, but I got over 10 gigs to sort thru.

I've been looking at lots of Carnaval photos my friends have posted this week. Looks like it was an amazing time this year. I keep saying "next year," and one of these years I really just have to go. Saw this photo posted on Wednesday. Spectacular!

Carnaval was spectacular!! I told James that when I go on vacation, I'm only in about <2% of the pix (cuz I usually am takin' them). I gave the cam to him, and he got some great pix con Tomas y Marguarite dancing in the parade. We spent about 1/3 the time dancing, 1/3 the time observing (well more like consuming margaritas with Debs, Marguarite, and James) from 2nd floor at Senor Frogs, and the last part chillin' from the second floor at El Toros. Only about 2 hours once we got back to Villa Blanca before wakeup call.
