So I may have done something rash. I decided to break from the norm and booked a minivan through "Econo car rental" which is not the same as Cancun Car Rental as far as I can tell. however the google maps places them at the same building that Cancun Car rental used to use. Is google maps wrong or is it actually yet another name of the same company? It is significantly cheaper this time. I tried to find some negative reports about them (I would have not used if I had found some) but I only saw one negative and the rest positive. I arrive in Cancun next week though so don't have a lot of time to change it if I need to! Anyone want to fill me in on their experiences with this company good or bad? thanks!

Boy, that's a new one to me. We've always had to pay up front. Keep us posted on how the final bill comes out with what you were expecting.

so not much to say they were great to deal with, mini van was fine and the price was what we were quoted he did a walk aruond the car when we returned it, everything was up to par and gave us a ride to the airport.they did take a deposit of 20 percent at the time of booking.we will use them again for sure.

We've used them for the past several years with no negatives to report. They were always located close to the old Cancunrentacar place but just a bit farther north, off the highway a couple hundred feet and hadn't moved last year when we were there. Personally, I kind of like what might be their new location. Used to use Cancunrentacar quite often. We only changed because we were getting a little better pricing from Econo. We'll find out for sure where they are in just under 3 weeks.

I just went online and checked out Econo car rental and their quote is $100 less than what I have reserved with Easyway for our 8 days in April. I am still a little hesitant to switch because we have used Easyway before and they were very good. They switched our car when we found out that the Tsuru that we had reserved didn't have shoulder straps in the back seat for the kids (they are in booster seats). To be fair though, I did email and ask if the Tsuru had shoulder straps before our trip and I was told it did only to find out it did not when we arrived. They put us in a VW Golf which was a nice newer car but no radio. Can anyone confirm if the cars are newer and would have shoulder straps in the back seat? We are reserving a higher class car this time just to be safe, a Dodge Attitude. But if all things are equal and a Dodge Attitude is the same at both places I'd rather save $100 and go with Econo.

Another potential benefit for Econo car rental for us is that it is located right next to the Courtyard hotel where we will probably spend our first night.

Toban and Craig , thanks for responding . Econo , http://www.econocarrental.com/ , is looking good these days . Lastic , I think all the renters including Easyway and America are an easy enough walk from the Courtyard but a hundred bucks less with similar coverage sounds good .

So I did it! I canceled my reservation with Easyway and booked with Econo car rental! It was $90 cheaper for the 8 days (I said $100 but it was actually $90) for the same size car and same insurance coverages, with 0 deductible. I got an immediate email confirmation from Alex who said they would pick us up from the lobby of the Courtyard at 10:00 am. We return the car at 1:00 pm on the day we return but there was no extra charge for the 3 hours (10:00 am pickup and 1:00 pm drop off). The email from Alex said it would take 2 minutes to fill out the paperwork and we would be on our way! We figured that if for some reason the car isn't what we wanted at least it will be early in the day and we would have time to figure out a plan b. Hopefully all will go well and I will be able to offer a positive review for someone else!

One thing I do, which I think helps, even though my Spanish isn't good, when I email to a car rental place I use the microsoft translator and I translate my email to Spanish. When they reply in Spanish, I use the translator to translate it back to English so I can read it. My bilingual son also helps me out. I find that the communication is much easier that way and less gets lost in translation, so to speak.

Yes it was around 100 dollars less for us on a 10 day rental, the funny thing is that when you get to their office the only thing that says econo is your bill!!!they operate under many names, but are fast to answer any questions you have online, and your quote is what you pay.we were very happy with them.

My recollection is that Econo and Avicar are the same company. Haven't heard of any other companies associated with them. Years ago I used Avicar always, but then they closed. Econo (as I understand it) bought out their cars and name. Found them as Econo a few years ago and haven't rented from anyone else since that time.
