We are scheduled to arrive in Akumal Mid-may and are concerned after reading the posts ,about The Secrets Build. This might just be our last ABR trip and we' ll have to look elsewhere. My real concern right now is whether to stay there in May. The last thing I want to deal with on my holiday is construction. Does anyone have any information on how quickly this is progressing? And does anyone have any suggestions on alternatives? geez - this is so sad ! The poor ecosystem !!!

no worries / nothing happening - only fences - still blueprints only

We will be there in May too....Hopefully this construction for Secrets will be on Mexican time...nice and slow! But truth is there Money to be had so sure Secrets wont waste too much time on building. Paradise at Akumal Beach is no more...this will be our 7th trip to ABR and looks to be the last :( Hope we can find another place that is how Akumal used to be !

didn't somebody post a article that stated that construction is set to start in 15 days...if that is the case by the time May comes they will be in the throws of it.

Personally I would contact my travel company and ask for a change. However...it being Mexico.....15 days could easily mean 15 months.

If you are staying in building 6 or 7, you will be fine. No need to cancel.

We're scheduled for late May & early June and are not too concerned, yet. ABR is even allowing us a 48 cancellation for this trip so we'll be digging around here in the weeks leading up to our arrival. We're not ready to give up on this place that has given us so many wonderful memories... only hoping for the best.
