I just got back from ABR a few days ago and thought I should give you some info of what I saw. I didn't take any photos as it is pretty much what you have seen in the past photos. they do have barbed wire that spits up to the road to separate the two properties. they are taken sliding doors out of building 3 so I believe that is included in the sale which is supprising as it is at angle right next to building four. we walked behind building 3 and there is definite barbed wire fencing keeping nosey people like me out, so you can not access the kid club area or tennis court area and the building that the ATV;s and ping pong table were. they have done minor stripping of wiring and windows off the frame. the old italian rest. has windows missing and is falling out of repair. that pool near by it is drained. I think the saddness I had this last trip was seeing those facilities going to disrepair.
I had my opportunity to go up to Mr. Ortiz and ask him or manager but I was only there for 3 nights and didn't have the energy. so I can see why there is limited information on this from loco gringo.
it has made the area north of building 6 very busy. we just got a palapa south of building 6 and it was peaceful but when they of if they build the moonrise bar down there, that will change.
jeshua and Mary Anne took care of us and all the employees were in good spirits and try hard to please.
they are bringing in alot of people from europe so I guess there business is good. I was looking at the probably of visiting again and with a cost of $100 a person this spring, it is getting past my price theshold.
I started staying at this place right at the beginning of the ressesion and there might be only 30 people in november and hotdogs instead of bacon at breakfast. had some good pricing then and till lately. in the last 4 years we have seen the interest in the resort come back and with that increase in cost. what the future is, I don't know but if a good price comes along, I'll be back.

MF, did you notice if there is still access to the ATM machine back behind the kid's club by the employee's gate?
Thanks for your update.

Thanks for your take, monfrio.

Badger..no ATM machine. Gone.

The fence goes all the way out to 307 along the old ABR service road where the employee gate and ATM building were.

When we were there 19Jan for 2 weeks they were removing some balconies from building #5 where we were staying and replacing them with new ones. The noise was not too obtrusive...but certainly the changes seems to be coming. I understood that the owner of all the Dreams resorts bought the north section of ABR,, but could not find out what the plans were.

True. And I cant go to Florida for the same price as Mexico.

But comparing ABR..what you get for what it costs..to other places nearby...is when things start to get fuzzy for me.

With prices that low for an AI, hate to say it because I know so many of you really love the place, but it would be a more lucrative business if they just went full service beach club. $50 day for unlimited buffet and drinks, use of the beach (chairs, palapas), pool, and non-motorized water sports (snorkeling, kyacks, put an iceburg and a trampoline thing out in the water...) $100 a day, $170 a day for 2 people... add up the cost of a/c, doing laundry, maid service, food & drink and there isn't much left over. Add in even basic property maintenance and paying all the staff and I don't see how this can possibly be a profitable venture.

Wow, the 'ol place is getting pretty pricy!!!

Just this last October, we paid $128/nite for both of us at ABR. Building #5/3rd floor.
Made for a really cheap trip and at that price, we could overlook a few "nicks & dents"...

However, we've decided to go for "something more comfortable" on our May 2013 trip (all about R&R this time), so we just recently booked a 5-star, adult only resort north of PDC. And if ABR is getting $200/night, then we're getting an absolute STEAL on our upcoming vacation!!!

When you get back, let us know where, and what you thought. Trying to get ideas for the 20th, wanting to splurge, which means we will have to budget, and save all eyar long.
