Getting really excited now. One week to go. Spoke to Niki Allen, who lives in Punta Allen and is a yoga instructor among other things. She told us there are about 70 school age kids and 30 in kindercare there. I hit the Dollar Tree and got about 500 pens and pencils, with sharpeners, erasers, rulers, math flash cards, notepads, etc. Next, my dentist kicked in 144 toothbrushes and toothpastes. I completely filled my largest suitcase. Cammie always brings one entire suitcase of toys and goodies including childrens sunglasses provided by TwirleyB.

I know we're going to have fun in Akumal for a few days, but I have a suspicion that this 50km haul down a very bumpy dirt road is going to be the highlight of our trip.

No way man! I'm like an off road racing champion (except they don't usually drink tequila during the race).

Doug...I believe the drive is shorter than 50 kilometers and somewhere around 37. The drive should take around 2 -1/2 to 3 hours. Fill up with gas before you go. No Pemex station there. You can purchase gas but it will cost more and you will have to find someone that sells it from their back yard. The road is a rough travel but worth it. Punta Allen has great beaches and friendly people. Niki is a nice lady and has been there for years. She serves a good breakfast. I think I was there last year but it could have been the year before. The first time was around 1996 and I rented from her (now deceased) husband Sawn. Have a great drive and tell your lady to wear a sports bra.

Sorry, I got my numbers from Locogringo. But regardless, we did the drive a few months ago so we'll be fine.

I was feeling pretty warm until this morning when the dentist pitched in all of the tooth brushes. That was incredibly cool. My suitcase is full of warm feelings. Can't wait to see what Cammie got.

Sorry Doug...It all depends where you measure it from and I am just remembering something I thought I knew before. It happens when you get old. I would rather have it converted to miles because that is how many beers I have to drink on the 18th.

Love it ! I will be waiting for pictures and stories. I wish I knew who you were renting from so I could tell them to have your Dung sign ready.

That is a really great thing you are doing, Doug Are you two staying at Xamach Dos or going all the way to Punta Allen?

We made it back from Xamach Dos in just over an hour. Ron invited us out (kind of a dare) and I'm sure he didn't expect us to take him up on his offer. We showed up with some fish and had lunch. I'd go back in a heartbeat, not so sure about mi esposa.
