I was checking on some information from what was my "original" Trip Report and realized, thanks to many of you that it wasn't a trip report at all. It was totally crappy. So a lady of my word. Here is my trip report, 5 years later....

Here is what I said (and was all that my trip report was... ) We went in September 2007 for our honeymoon and it couldn't have been better. The staff was attentive, and friendly. The food was good for an all inclusive, and the restaurants had a nice atmosphere. The grounds were keep neat and clean as were the rooms. We went 3 weeks after Hurricane Dean hit.

My one strong suggestion would be not to spend the money on a swim up suite. They are behind the beach row of rooms so you have no view, and there are two other pools on the property with swim up bars to utilize. Rooms 28-34 are the best! I recommend the 2nd floors. The website has a great map of the entire property.

Please feel free to email me with any questions, I am more than happy to answer.

I don't think you'll be disappointed if you pick EDSS.

So this was my first trip out of the country and into anything other than the United States. We made it through the gauntlet at the airport and successfully found our transfer to Eldorado Seaside Suites.

So here was our room. I do remember that we requested 2nd Floor Ocean Front and upon arrival they didn't have it available. So for ONCE I was patient and told them that we could wait if they had one. They did. So after our welcome drink of champagne we went to the beachside bar and had a drink while we waited for the room to be arranged.

.

I obviously was VERY excited for the bed. (It was SUPER comfy I remember that...)

They even drew a bath for us...

Then it was on to dinner. I remember shrimp and risotto was involved...

OK, That is it for the first day, more to come!! :)

Really looking forward to more as we don't seem to get a lot of reports about this resort. Thanks for coming back and making it right!

The room was really nice. A big bathroom to the left as you walk in, then the huge king size bed and TV. Then a step down to the bath and a little table and chairs followed by the balcony. The balcony was big enough for two chairs and and hammock. I do remember that there was a huge dead tree right in our view line of the beach. There were always cool birds in it, but I was not a fan.

Hey I am remembering more than I thought I would. woo hoo!

Sadly to say, those are the only pictures of the room I can find.

Our next day was great! A beautiful beach day! We had breakfast in the one restaurant that served it- Arrecifes. It was a big buffet with fresh fruit, pastries, and omelet station, cold-cuts. They had servers that would bring you coffee or juice. It was nice...

Yup. sand gravity was going to kick in today.

They had these awesome two story beach beds. My hubby had already gone out and played the towel game and scored us this beauty.

We must have decided to move to the upstairs one for these are the next picture I have.

We were there 3 weeks after hurricane Dean and I was really impressed how great the grounds looked and everything. In the picture above- the jetty I believe used to have a wooden dock on it and that is where they used to do there fancy dinners in the evening. At least that's what I remember the website having on it.

We continued to just hang by the beach and had lunch brought to us...

As you can see, the beach here was great. You could go out pretty far and still have a sandy bottom, on either on side of the jetty too.

Then I'm sure a siesta was involved and on to dinner...

That night we went to the Asian restaurant. It was super tasty with a great view of both ocean and the jungle. Not to mention these awesome lights...

I am very excited about how large this next cocktail is. ( I do remember this was all I drank the rest of the trip, and yet I can not remember what it was. I think it was the resorts signature drink.)

Now on to a more flattering photo of this delectable drink.

So I guess we didn't eat any dinner just drank it. I remember it being good and we got sushi that was cooked-Shrimp tempura roll probably. This ended up being a good thing. For there was a couple on the plane with us also staying at the resort. He did eat the non cooked sushi I think the next night and ended up with food poisoning for the remainder of the trip. He was a lovely shade of green when he boarded the plane to go home.

Hi.
Let me start by saying I love EDSS. We have been there 3 times since 2010. Last time Dec 2012. Just a few comments on the great trip report. The Italian resturant outdoor dining is now gone. It has been covered up and has walls glassed in. The beach has been expanded several hundred yards south to accomadate the extra guests that will come from the 100 extra rooms currently under construction. The place since 2010 has undergone a full "whitewashing" all the buildings and retaining walls have been painted white. I personally am not a fan of the new whitewash. Is it just me or do the colours better suit Mexico? I cant be the only one that feels that way. The "coral" retaining walls must have been objectional to some so have been stucco covered and painted white. In the rooms close to the Vita garden gill you get Yanni played at full volume so you dont hear the construction behind the resturant. Its bad when you hear the music while still inside your room.
This is still a very good resort and still has the most fun volleyball area anywhere I have visited but I am curious to see how the changes effect the resort as a whole. The staff are amazing and you really get treated well. Will I go back ...Yes for sure... am I concerned about a larger newer resort..yes for sure. We decided this time to try Karisma's new resort in Negril Jamaica. (same parent company) We leave in a few weeks to see how that is.

EDSS used to be our favorite resort!!!!! We have stayed there many many times and loved each and every one, but when they continued to build and go up on their pirces we stopped staying there. It was a quaint, romantic, special part of paradise for sure! Thanks for your report and glad you had a wonderful trip!

Ditto Travelon! When I first started going to Mexico in 1996, El Dorado was our place. Went there every year for nearly 10 years. It was sooooo casual, colorful buildings, nice outdoor eating spaces. Then they began to paint everything white.... and it just kept changing until it felt more European than Mexican. Stopped going. Sad, because it was my home away from home. It's not the same place anymore :(

We had a similar experience with El Dorado Maroma....although, admittedly they have the 'beach whales' due to erosion (which kind of blows the beach lovers 'view). We were bowled over by the room, how romantic it was set up....the view from the balcony was to die for (you can't see the beach whale thingy's unless you are really standing right on the beach).....the outdoor shower in the room was HUGE and the whole bathroom was to die for. The food was incredible. The room service was impeccible. When I would call for room service breakfast they would say 'good morning Ms. _____ what would you like to eat for breakfast this morning? I purchased it as a blind vacation over at 'hotfire' lol. I only got 3 nights that way, then we spent a whole week in Cozumel where I had booked direct with Coral Princess. I would not hesitate to book another blind vacation again, in fact I will probably do the one coming up in may that way.....it allows us to pick the highest amount of 'stars' in the specific area of the coast we want to be in with the amentiies we want. The only thing you don't know until you push the button is....the name of the resort. It is actually rather exciting.

Oh yes.....and we stayed at El Dorado Maroma Casitas....which are THE place to stay at that resort. I am excited to see your report on the seaside suites, I have been very curious about it. Is it adult only? I think it is for some reason, I remember reading that.

Loved your report.

Yes, EDSS is adults only...

Those are all the pictures we took of the rooms. I can give an adept description though...
Walk in..big bathroom on the left with toilet and HUGE tiled walk in shower. Vanity out of the bathroom on the left side wall. Bedroom area with super large comfy king size bed, two nightstands, side table with coffee stuff on the dividing half wall to bath dining area. Across the bed was a TV closet with safe. Step down from bed area to the little dining table and bath tub. Then the balcony....

I hope this helps... the room was large and well appointed.

But Wait!! There's More!!!

I'm slow to get to these remember! We still have a few days to go...so onward!

Today we rented a car, to get out a bit.

We rented a car directly from EDSS which was pretty sweet. I don't remember it being a super quick process and I DO remember it being kinda pricey. I think it was $100 and we could return it by 9am the next day. We got a very nice Dodge Attitude and had no problems at all whatsoever!

So we immeditley went to the Tulum Ruins. Got there before 9am...it was already scorching and the buses were just starting to pull up so we got to getting! We quickly bought me this ridiculous hat for I forgot mine... (I thought it looked cute at the time, not so much now....scheesh)

I do remember at the time that these two pictures were taken the buses of other tourists had started to catch up with us. Particularly a not so lovely group of either Chinese or Japanese tourists. I thought for sure that as we were taking these pictures they were going to knock me and Mr. Shrimp of these cliffs for the path here isn't that wide and they really want to get where they were going. We let them go too! Here are some more pictures from the ruins...

So we finished up at the ruins and headed to the beach! This is the beach just to the north of El Paraiso. We ate there, too, wouldn't recommend it. Our sandwhich was not very good, and the in my hubbys words..."Euro Trash Music" was unreasonably loud. The beach of course was just gorgeous!

This next picture is my favorite one of the ENTIRE trip:

After this is was on to my husband's favorite place La Buena Vida in Akumal. This has been my one and only time to LBV for when we were there in September 2010 it was closed for remodeling. I loved it and can't wait to go back this May!

The famous swings:

One of the views: keep in mind this was 3 weeks after hurricane Dean and there was pretty extensive damage. When we were in Tulum, Mezzanine was closed and had damage too.

That's it for LBV. We were supposed to have dinner at La Lunita, but were having to much fun here. I really liked the swings...

Tomorrow... Xel- Ha, snorkeling and swimming with dolphins. (No Judging!)

That got me to thinking, so I just checked for 1 week in May. ABR 1326, EDSS 1652. 326.00 difference. Doesn't seem like a lot, given the properties and what you're getting, so it's got me 'thinking'.

The water is very calm in your photos, is it typically like that???

Ok on to the next day!

Today we took a bus that that the resort offered to Xel-Ha! Scarest bus ride of my life but I don't do well as a passenger. When I say bus well it was a short one.

Lots of snorkeling today, as well with swimming with the dolphins. We didn't get the pictures on disk of the dolphins and I know that its around here somewhere. So I may come back and repost it if I can get Mr. Shrimp to help figure out where we put it....

Onward....

This was one of the first shots taken at Xel-Ha. He was on the rocks just to the right of our chairs...

Then there was this guy....

Then on to the snorkeling...

You can really see how briny the water is here....

Not sure if this one is out of focus or if the water is briny... Mr. Shrimp took all of these. I was just trying to get the hang of it for I was having vest problems...

This guy was hanging out as we were leaving... So Cool...

I swear there are more photos from this day, but these are all I can find... hmmm... including the ones from swimming with the dolphins.

I have to say for me swimming with the dolphins was a highlight of the trip for us. Especially me. It was so great to interact with these amazing mammals up close. I'm glad I did it once in my life....

Xel-Ha was fun. I would recommend it, especially if you have older kids.

I do have one memory funny, right when were starting the snorkeling. I can tell we had gotten used to being at an adults only resort, for there was this one kid- maybe 7 from the the deep south that was shouting into is snorkel gear "I can't see the fish, I can't see the fish!!" and it totally threw me off and irritated me. I was like what is a kid doing here... not a very kind thought now was it?

Tomorrow...rain, pottery painting and more rain!

So today we woke up and it looked like this:

This is the view from our balcony by the way. I knew we had one somewhere!! One more...

Why that dead tree was still there is beyond me. It did not add anything to the view....

So we had some breakfast and did some reading at one of the little bungalow cabana thingies on the property. When we got bored with that we did some paint your own pottery. The resort had some fun rainy day activities set up for the guests to do. This was pretty fun. When we were done painting the local girl who oversaw it took it fired it and our pieces would be ready to pick up the day before we left. She even embellished them a bit and made them a bit prettier than we did. I made a candle holder and the hubby did two small pieces, a vase and a lizard.

I'm really surprised that my tongue isn't sticking out in this picture for it always is when I am concentrating. My siblings, their kids and my daughter does it too.

After this it was on to lunch then more reading and being lazy..... We tried to be outside but it was chilly and a bit to windy.

After this is was on to dinner. Nice pic of us but no food porn. Sorry....

Tomorrow, our last full day and the sun makes a nice comeback!!

Well it almost time to say goodbye, but not before some final fun in the sun...

We woke up and the day look promising. At least it wasn't raining buckets. I am realizing now that we had not gotten into the habit of rising with the sun on this trip like we do now. Oh well it was our honeymoon after all.

For our last dinner we went back to the first restaurant. Note... Mr. Shrimp hated those shoes. He had to wear them to dinner every time! I could wear flip flops but he couldn't. HA!! For once women won!

Tomorrow a little fun before we go home!

I'm going to start the last post with all of the great flowers on the resort property. Plus spring starts this week so why not I say!!

Coconuts!! Keep in mind this trip would be the first time I had ever seen them.

Well we started off by a little photo session since the weather had gotten all nice and sunny. Not to mention hot!! I'm pretty sure I am wearing capri's because we knew it was chilly back home. That's the only reasoning I can think of at the moment.

And of course drinks at the bar one last time.

What a fantastic honeymoon!! It was wonderful!! And to think, in exactly two months from today we will be back in our favorite place!!

One last orange drink before we go won't hurt though...

Now we head for home!!
