Headed to Puerto Aventuras in a couple of days with the family. Wanted to take the kids and grandkids to Akumal for the day, spend some time at the beach, have lunch, do some snorkeling. Our group is six adults and 2 children (1 & 3). I had planned to just get day passes to ABR, in part so we could show it to the kids, but at this years prices $50 adult, $25 for the kids, it seems a bit steep. Any other suggestions?

Just go to the main Akumal beach and maybe Yal-Ku Lagoon, eat lunch at La Buena Vida or the Lol-Ha, also the Loncheria has cheap food (no drinks, you can buy beer next door at the Super Chomak), but for just one day I would go with the toes in the sand choice for max enjoyment.

For that kind of $$ you can rent 2 golf carts by the arch in Akumal & drive back to Yal Ku Lagoon & snorkle there & ride back turn in golf carts & hang out by Lol Hol on the beach & snorkle there after lunch.

soooo many choices

try this

Get to Akumal by the white arches
rent 2 golf carts from Marcelo at the HAC office in the arches
Head to Yal-Ku for some great snorkeling (entry cost)
Stop by La Buena Vida for refreshments / food - let the kids climb the Crows Nest and photos by the sea serpent skeleton and walk the Half Moon Bay beach
Back to Akumal for Ice Creme / fish tacos at Lucy/Turtle Bay
Play in Akumal

The wife and I have stayed at ABR twice, we actually wanted to go there this year, but our travel agent couldn't get us enough rooms for the date we where able to all travel together. Really wanted to take the kids to ABR for the day, but think hanging out at the beach and lunch at Lol Ha will be the ticket this time.

excellent tacos just south of lol-ha

Turtle Bay/Lucy's for Ice creme and tacos

There are so many choices

Lol-Ha is 1 option (most expensive though)

I'm swallowing my pride here...this makes me think of a dumb question that I've been meaning to ask. With all of the info on here I am still not sure.
Can't a person just walk down to the beach in front of ABR and snorkel there or is the beach considered private? Every time we go to Akumal we don't go there to snorkel, we just snorkel out from the dive center... . Don't hit me, I promise to protect the reef.

Sure you can. They don't own the beach. As long as you don't try to use the facilities. I've seen lots of folks walking the beach. As long as you are near the water they can't really stop you. You can't put down a towel and hang out but you can enter the water there. Why not just get in the water by Lol Ha and snorkle on down. Lots to see and you could walk back if you want.

jamie3p - just south of the Lol-Ha main restaurant (not the beach bar and snack bar) there is a cyber cafe which sells coffee drinks and ice cream and just south of that is Loquito's Taco's which are supposed to be good.

Turtle Bay Cafe and the new Lucy's location are to the left when you enter the arches (Lol-Ha is to the right), along with Cueva del Pescador, so lots of choices. Have fun, lots of choices

On the other side of Lol-ha there is Imelda's eco cocina and you can pick from 3 different lunch items for about 7 bucks.
