Most messages on the webcam are hard to read. The best seem to be in turtle grass. Are there other media that will show up and not harm the area?

I think the best "sand font" is created by using one of the nearby rocks instead of a sandal. You can find several rocks right there by the Lol Ha patio deck under the camera.

Please don't forget to write the message from our view so we can take screen shots and make funny comments about your, um, position.

I use the grass when it's around. Digging deep enough (wet sand showing) & close enough to camera seem to really be the main issue. You can see it good if those criteria are met.

I think I will look for a long, heavy stick so I don't show my a**. Thought about using Bougavilla flowers as there is always an abundance of those on the back patio where we stay, but not sure if that could be harmfull somehow.

I doubt those would be a problem. It sure would be pretty! Also, you could scoop up some finely-ground seashells and use that.

The biggest fail is that people get real far away from the camera. If someone has a laptop or cell phone that can show the webcam, take it with you. I think Whale once posted that you should be by the closest palm to the webcam, and yet everyone goes to farthest palm.

I think the problem with standing by the closest tree is the cam only shows one tree the other one that is the farthest palm is in direct line with the closest so not visible ... and the closest one seems TOO close when you are there ... JMO ... Hmmmmm or maybe the camera angle has changed now ..looking at a few pics I can't tell. definitely going to investigate while I am down there! Report to follow ... LOL or as the "kids" say XD

Since they changed the webcam view, it seriously cuts down on the space, in which a message can be written, and seen. Before, you could see the little, baby palm, to the left of the screen. I wrote messages, clear back near the steps of the restaurant, that were visable.

When I wrote the message for 4Wheeled, a couple walked by and said, "that will never show up on the webcam, it's too far back." Guess what? It did, for days...

i agree....the cam now has the view everyone used to think it had. it takes a lot of time to carve and fill in a message with seaweed like ru does, so i think the best way to have it seen is to let someone know when you'll be there, to catch it early. i know, not always possible....

and i hope no one is writing anything in line with the base of the first tree now!

The best way to make a sign in the sand is to wait after a big LG party and use the folks that pass out to make your message....just line them up laying down because most are to heavy to carry.....you will find after many margs the folks bend easy so making letters out of them really isn't a big deal.....

It has always bothered me to see people making messages using the turtle grass.
Sooner or later someone has to rake it up and dispose of it. That most likely being one of the men who get paid very little to rake the beach.
Can I suggest that if you make a message using any type of vegitation, you either come back a little later and clean it up, or give the men that rake the beach some tip money the next time you see them.

Smack them in the head with a coconut and the sand message will last a lot longer. Arrange them face-up for photogenic quality too! When they do wake up, they'll blame the headache on the nuclear margs from Pescadors.

Mark, it's not like we get it out of the water! We pick it up RIGHT there on the beach, approximately 3 feet away.

I used to be able to write my name, but as I got older I could only do the first three letters.
.......and it gets absorbed into the sand so quickly.......

I was going through old Trip Reports and came across this (very entertaining) one that had a pic of the webcam. Maybe not as far back as you're looking for but a pic nonetheless.
