We will be staying at grand sirenis 1st week of March. Can't wait! We would like to visit PM this time. Not sure if you can rent a car at Grand sirenis. Or how much it would be? Or should we take a collectivo to Playa and then rent a car. Any ideas how to get there the most inexpensive way would be great. . Thanks ahead of time!

I would recommend you to pre-book transportation. That's the easiest and safest way to get to your hotel.

Sorry maybe my post was confusing ..... We just want to know where the best place to rent a car to go to PM. I would think that renting at our resort would be expensive . Can we take collectivo to Akumal or Playa then rent a car. Would a taxi for four be too expensive round trip from Grand Sirinus to PM?

You can colectivo to PDC and then from that same terminal catch a second Cancun colectivo and get off on the highway in Puerto Morelos and then cab to the PM beach or wherever you like . Very easy and almost as fast as driving when we did it last month . You could rent a car in PDC if you didn't like the all colectivo route or still need a car . You could spend some time in PDC on the way back drinking as you please with no driving to consider keeping some cab riding in mind if the colectivos are full for some leg . The leg to PM and the leg back to Sirenis are from the terminal and you can simply wait for the next colectivo if you can't all get in one . Cheers

Thank you sooooo much Jaun Rojo...This is just what I needed to hear. We will be with another couple so I tHink it would be more fun to take the collectives and cabs and be able to have a few drinks while at PM than renting a car. Do you know how late collectivos run ?

Something like 9 or 10 PM but we usually drive so I wouldn't trust me too much .

I've done the trip to PM from Akumal a couple of times. My favorite way is to take the colectivo into PDC, then walk over to the ADO bus terminal and for a few pesos more, ride in comfort, nonstop to PM. They drop you off at the same place as the collectivo does on Hwy 307 at PM. Then take a $2 taxi down to the PM beach.
Do the same in reverse to return. If the colectivos have stopped running by the time you get to PDC, you'll then have to take a taxi back to GS.

Your advice is right on...sounds like an adventure to me! Hubby is game also. We are goin with another couple this trip. We usually stay at Barcelo or Condo at Half Moon Bay - Akumal...but found a great deal for last week of February (hubby's birthday) and could not resist. We usually go in March, May or July...so getting out of the snow and cold will be a real treat. Thanks for your advice! Life is good!

We did the reverse of your trip...
stayed in Puerto Morelos, took the cab/collectivo from the beach to the highway, caught the ADO bus to Playa del Carmen or Cancun for the day and then did the reverse to come home. Very easy and didn't have to worry about drinking and driving and where to park the car. Not terribly expensive and very comfortable.
