Hi, i didnt book until late, but managed to get a place in puertos adventuras, BUT, the people i am planning on spending time with, are out on the point, right between Akumal and Half Moon Bay, so am wondering if anyone has an approximate cost of cab between the two places? How far is it? Would i be better off getting a small hotel room in Pueblo Akumal? in the town?
Have been travelling small town Mexico for last few years, and usually, can find a downtown hotel , off the beach, for a more economical stay( travelling solo isnt cheaper..lol), and then i just walk to the beach,is it possible to find a small mexican (prob) hotel in pueblo akumal? and then jusy use public beach, and wouldnt it put me closer to the villa out on the point?..
These would be the kind of places people use for long term stays, like small mexican run hotels in the pueblo that are still clean and safe??thanks for any help..

As far as I know there are no hotels in the actual pueblo of Akumal - there are a couple of places that have a room above the shop so to speak for rent but I have no information on that.
You could consider taking a colectivo from PA to Akumal and walk to your friends' place if it just on the point.

on Half Moon Bay there is a hotel called Vista Del Mar and Loco Gringo reps the propert so you can contact reservations on this board for information.

It's roughly 16km from Akumal to PA (I did check the odometer one day trying to determine which Chedraui was closer). There is a hostel in Akumal Pueblo (at least there used to be). I would think a taxi is roughly 15.00 from one to the other, though I'm sure you could negotiate.

The area has very curiously developed in such a way that there is not a small family run hotel of the type you describe anywhere between the cities of PDC and Tulum that I am aware of .
A concern for value travellers about PA is the potential distance from your lodgings to the highway to catch a colectivo . Taxis add up quickly .
Can you cancel the PA lodgings ?
If so there are very reasonable lodging options through this site for couples and singles especially . Perhaps cheaper than the current lodgings in PA and perhaps better on many levels but that's up to you to decide . We have stayed at three of these options and I'm sure all would be fine and steps from a beach . Maybe the friends would come hang with you .

Contact Loco Gringo with your dates . I just wrote them today myself .

Cheers

I don't know if they still do it or not but the ecological society of Akumal had bunk houses near the beach that they used to house people in that were helping on projects. They would rent them out when they were vacant. I was going to rent there around 8 years ago and they wanted $10 a night. I believe this is their web site and it might be worthwhile checking them out.

Good suggestion from Steve O - have not heard much about the CEA dorms lately.
Since at my age I cannot do shared baths, look into Playa Caribe casitas or the studio unit at La Joya, both have pools and are under $100. Both are on Half Moon Bay.

Yes, i can cancel, but dont want to until i have securred another place, just took the first place i could find as most seem to be full during the time period i am there.
I did contact LG, before i even joined, there WAS a place on HMB for 85@night, now i wish i wouldve grabbed it as i cannot remember which place it was or if they even had vacancies. .Plus, the reality is, the people i m spending time with on the point...are my kids and grandkids, so all us "grannies" on here know how important this time will be.Turning 60 yo on the day they arrive....does life get any better?...oh yeah...granny needs to find a closer place!
am not really big on the idea of sharing a bathroom or dorm style either, though i thank you for the info..looks to me like i have to "up" the budget...will have to contact LG again...thanks for info..it was really needed ..thanks.

Playa Caribe is repped by LG. It was probably one of the casitas that you heard about. They are around $85 a night. We are staying in our fave for two weeks in April.

If I were wealthy I would troll boards like LG, look for messages like yours and underwrite the expense of these joyful holidays. Powerball deliver me! Seriously though, I wish you a joyous time with your family!

Playa Caribe casita is $80 including tax, not sure when you are coming but there is an LG special on right now for 10% off new bookings starting April 13.
La Joya studio is $95 and has a patio (PC casitas do not
Good luck and happy birthday.
