Okay,, so I will be staying at the EDSS from the 12th of February to the 19th.
So far my plans include...

1. Taking collectivo to Tulum and checking out the ruins I want to do this as early in the morning as possible to avoid the large crowds as much as possible. After our tour of the ruins,, I want to head south of the ruins in Tulum and check out the beach there, Maybe have a cerveza or two.( recommendations as to your favorite watering hole are more then welcome). Then I want to make our way up to the city of Tulum and catch an ADO to Coba ( 1 way ticket so that I can catch the next available bus back to Tulum). Once at Coba I want to either rent some bicycles or hire the tricycles with a guide. I keep reading that climbing the ruins may or may not be allowed anymore. I have read that they keep saying that they will stop allowing climbing but they never seem to stop it.. I sure hope I can climb them as I believe this will be one of the highlights of my trip. After that,, maybe a dip in the Grand Cenote,,then back to the bus station, catch a bus to Tulum and hop a collectivo back to EDSS.. Call that a very full day..Any suggestions on this day will be appreciated.

2. Off to Akumal Bay. A nice early morning snorkel to see the turtles and all the other marine life that I can see. Maybe a couple of hours here, and then grab a bite to eat ( suggestions welcome again) then up to Yal Ku Lagoon for a snorkel there.

3. Xpu-ha... Have this one pretty much figured out because of another thread.. thanks for the info on that.

The rest of my time,, will most likely be spent on the beach and around the resort that I am staying at, after all we spent quite a bit of money to go to this particular resort.

However,, is there something that I really should be doing that I have not already got on my list?? I would hate to be right there and then realize later that I really should have made an effort to go see ......!!

I appreciate all input..

and as always..

Happy Travels!!

If this is your first trip, try not to over plan. Your Tulum trip would take most of a day without Coba.Take your time and relax!

I would suggest that you rfirst day is a little jam packed, I would do Tulum for the day and coba another morning, everything else looks great. Remember you are on Mexican time, things tend to slooooowwww down a lot, even more so if you you do a tulum beach crawl.

Definitely make that 1st day 2 different days. No need to rush thru like you're on the Amazing Race!

This will be our 5th trip and each time we plan less and less. Just being on the beach is a real breath taking experiance. or is it breath giving? Go slow, my friend, go slow!

From what we have been told from people down there is climbing Nohoch Mul is open in the early opening hours but as soon as it gets crazy busy they close it off.

Your itinerary seems a bit too much to do in 1 day ..I would put it into 2 days, or cut one of them out completely.

Are you seeing a common theme amongst the responders messages?
Your plan would be much more realistic if instead of your numbered bullets referring to days, they referred to week 1, week 2, week 3...

I love the reference to Sand Gravity Too funny! ...and very true!

Ok,, so message received loud and clear,, take it easy,, split up the day.. got it..lol

As far as the bus station,, maybe it is not a station for say,, but the drop off/pick up spot,, I read that you you can catch any bus back and pay the driver of the bus,, is that not the case?

Thanks for all of the responses,, much appreciated.

Happy Travels

All good, but Akumal day I would have lunch at LBV. This is on Half Moon Bay half way between akumal and yal ku. Fabulous ambiance. Toes in the sand. Very chill.

I think maybe your talking about the collectivos. They are a type of bus service that run up and down the coast and pick-up and drop off passengers along the way. They are actually 10 or 15 person passenger vans and are very cheap about 20 pesos or so per person and yes you pay the driver right there. They stop along the hiway at all the resort entrances and anywhere else that people work at and near all small settelements. Very easy and practical and safe way to get around down there. Just go out to the hiway and look to see where people are gathered and that will be where the collectivo will be stopping.

I agree with Crunch on LBV for lunch. You might want to check the view from one of the crowsnest tables, if heights and ladders don't bother you.
Old guy going up.

I agree with splitting your Tulum/Coba trip into two days.....but if you really want to see both sites and not waste a beach day, it can be done with a little modification.

To save time you could hire a taxi for the day from the resort. Prices are negotiable.  Go to Coba first - early - and spend a few hours biking and climbing.  It is a great site and the view from the top is worth the climb.  A quick stop at a cenote to cool off and then into Tulum for lunch , shopping and or beach time.  Stop at the ruins last, later in the day.  It will be warm but the crowds thin out then too.  You should be home in time for a nap before dinner!  Treat your driver well.  A good one will make it a fantastic day.

Enjoy!

Not afraid of heights,, but terrified of falling..lol,, just kidding good with heights.. that looks like a really fun place to go for lunch!! Will go there for lunch for sure.

I have decided that I will make my way to Coba first, and then if time allows and I am not to tired will check out Tulum. If I dont get it in that day,, it is not to far from my resort so will check it on a later day.

I will give some consideration to the taxi option,, but really wanted to try to navigate my way around on my own,,part of the adventure is getting lost in neat places!!!!lol

I continue to appreciate all the feedback I have received,,you are all a rather friendly bunch aren't you!!!

Happy Travels

We're not a bad bunch, that's for sure.
The crowsnest is quite safe, but I don't think you can eat up there.....drinks are pulled up with a rope and pail.
Have fun
