Thinking about a day trip to Xpu Ha Beach during our next trip. I have read some great reviews about a beach club there but I can't remember which one. Looking for suggestions !

Also, how far north are these beach clubs from Akumal? If I remember right, maybe 10 minute cab ride?

The name of the beach club is La Playa XpuHa Beach Club. Here's their link:
http://www.laplayaxpuha.com/en/index.php

It is about 10 minutes north of Akumal either by taxi or Collectivo. Go to Google Earth and do a search and then you can see the distance to the beach club to 307.

Talk to RU Cruizin --- they've been there a couple of times. The last time was October 2012.

The beach club is a great place to hang out for the day, We usually head to Xpu Ha around 10:00 or so they open around 10:30ish. You can get lounge chairs and a palapa at no cost as long as you spend 100 pesos on food or drink, which is no problem. They have a full bar and pretty good food, the guacamole is the best, and buckets of beer for a good price, the nice thing I you can just run a tab for the day, check your bill because they will add the tip automatically. We have been there a few times when they have had live music in the afternoon. It's a beautiful beach to walk, and the water is usually calm, and no rocks to worry about.. You will Love it, one of our favorite places to spend the day.

RBG, if you have specific questions, feel free to PM, or email me. Yeah, it was about 10 minutes, maybe less.

Make sure you say La Playa Xpu Ha. On weekends only, they do charge an entrance fee at the Beach Club. But if you bring the receipt from your restaurant/bar tab, back, they give you your money back. So, don't forget that receipt.

If they don't take you to that entracnce, you will be charged $40 pesos PP, just to walk on the beach, no refund.

I'm not a big Pina Colada fan, but they are wonderful there. As KRBN said, the guac is amazing. Last time I was there, I ordered the cheese, and bacon fries. Hey, that was amazing too, no regrets.

so,, just to confirm,
On weekends only there is an entrance fee. It is however refunded, if you purchase food or drink at the restaurant or bar.

I don't completely understand the $40 peso per person. If I do not use the main entrance I am charged this? Who charge this? The beach Club?

and cheese, bacon fries!! I may be breaking lots of personal rules on this trip..lol

Northern...

Coming from the south, do not take the first entrance..that goes into the camp ground. That is where they will charge you 40 pesos. Go to the 2nd entrance a little ways past the first. It goes right to the beach club.

At any rate...if the entrance you take leads you to a camp ground, go out and take the next entrance to the north.

Yeah, I thought that might confise someone. You should have seen it, before I re-worded it.

So, we always take the collectivo everywhere. As many times as we have been to Xpu Ha, I have always said, La Playa Xpu Ha (which apparently denotes, the beach club).

The last time we went, I just said Xpu Ha, and the driver dropped us off at the first dirt road. We thought, cool a different road. We walked all the way down to the end, which is almost 1/2 mile. The guy tried to charge us $40 each, for nothing, just for entrance to the beach. We said no, and I planned to walk back to the road, and go down the other road. I convinced the guy, that I was going to the beach club, and he let me go, without paying.

Yes, if you show up at the La Playa Beach Club entrance (there is a big billboard which says La Playa Xpu Ha Restaurant, or something like that), they might charge you $50 pesos each, and put a bracelet on you. BUT, once you get to the beach club, if you spend $100 pesos, per person (a little over $8 per person), your chair and umbrella are free. Take your restaurant receipt back to the entrance, they give you back your entrance fee. So if you look at it like this... You get a chair, umbrella, food and drink for $8, it's a pretty good deal

You are charged the $50 peso entrance fee, right at the road. I know for sure they charge it on weekends. We ususally get there before 10:0), and have only been charged a time, or two. Just be prepared with $50 per person, and don't forget your receipt.

Yep, the fries were crispy, the bacon was , well bacon, simply amamzing Yummmmmyyyy!

The road, and the other entrance is owned by someone else.

The beaches are public, the access is not. Whoever owns the access, that's who charges. There are several access roads, in various locations. The beach club is the safest, I think.

Have always meant to visit this club and check out the CRT but can never seem to drag my butt off the beach at Akumal. Thanks, RU, for all the specifics on getting there sans the scalping.  Those fries sound amazing!   Is there decent snorkeling there?  I see they rent jet skis...are these things separate from the swimming/ snorkeling area?

Our 1st trip to the QROO was XPU HA beach. We stayed in small hotel on north side of what is now the Catalonia Tulum. I have snorkled going in at the south end of the Cat beach area. You go out a far distance & will see nice coral etc. I usually found a turtle or 2. I would drift southward towards the beach club & would exit out about. 1/2 way between the Cat & Beach Club. I always enjoyed this beach. Might have to make a day trip back.

We went there in november and I have both food, beach, and snorkeling pictures. The snorkeling was really good and the food was awesome. The beach is gorgeous. Go with Florida Girl and her lovely man like we did and you will have a lot of fun.

Last October we walked down to Club Maeva and snorkeled all the way back to La Playa. Saw some very large rays and a lot of other things. It is not as good as Akumal but it is ok.

XPU the X is "ish" or "esh".

And one more thing, and I have said this before.. Coronna Beer commercials have been shot near the North end of the beach. We saw one being shot in Oct 2011.

Can anyone comment on how Xpu Ha beach & snorkeling compares to the Palladium? Also, how far from the Palladium is it? Would you recommend taking collectivo or taxi?
Thank you!

Thank you all for the information,, it is really helpful, and that is a great price for what looks to be a great outing from the resort. The snorkeling pictures, and the pictures of the food make me wish I was there right now,, well soon enough I will be,, I will be sure to let you all know how my adventure to Xpu Ha turns out...

as far as how far it is from Palladium,, I measured it as the crow flies on wikimapia and it is about 4.5km from the center of the Palladium complex to the center of the beach of Xpu Ha..

Happy Travels!!

Looking for new places to visit this time around and this sounds great! We will have a 12 year old in tow. Is the beach club kid friendly?

That was me. Here's what the entrance from 307 looks like (click the link below)

http://forums.locogringo.com/forums/fb.asp?m=1519383

It is literally right at Kilometer #265 (meaning 11 km or 7 miles north of the Akumal exit on 307).
