Is there any days to go to Tulum and Coba ruins when the crowds are not so big. I know about going early But wondering about less crowded days. Thanks...................John

My suggestion would be to go to Ek Balam. It is well worth the drive. Get up early one morning and get there by 8am when they open and you will have the place to yourself. Seriously, it will be a sublime experience to be there alone and to climb up the pyramid. There are excellent stucco formations about half one up the pyramid.....

The other option, if Tulum is a must, is to go in the late afternoon after the bulk of the bus tours are gone.

Yes, rainy days. I went with a group of wonderful ladies, on a day, that no one else wanted to be out. We arrived at Coba, just when it opened, and had the place to ourselves for at least an hour. We climbed the pyramid alone, and I was thankful that day for rain, and clouds. It would have been miserable, if it hadn't been cooler. We also drove to Ek Balam, after Coba, then onto Valldolid for a late lunch.

I'll toss in a validation on the Ek Balam suggestion.

A couple from our group went there last year and brought back wonderful pictures. They were able to climb / explore without dealing with roped off areas and the crowd was very sparse (according to them and backed up by their pictures of the trip)

But, back to your original question; yes, there is. In fact, in QRoo, there are very few "bad" days.

D'oh! I should have read the entire thread before responding. Oh well, maybe it will mean something to somebody anyway.

right at open you'll have the place to yourself don't bother with the pedi cabs at Coba, enjoy the stroll in solitude. Rainy days is another good suggestion rules apply for both both Coba & Tulum ruins.

Just a guess..... Maybe Saturday, it is a "turnover" day for vacations. So there might not be as many people going to the ruins. But as others have said, get there as soon as the ruins open.
Have a great trip.

CB

Another thought..... On Sunday I believe Mexican nationals get in free to the sites. So Saturday is the "best" day.

Good suggestion from CabinBoy, can't remember about Tulum, but we went to Xel-Ha on a weekend, got there when it opened, only one bus in the car park and did the dolphin swim (hey guys, this was 1999 and I did not know any better then) and had two dolphin all to myself. Lots of folks travel on the weekend so fewer folks doing tours.

I would check the cruise ship port calendar to see how many ships are in Cozumel that day. There can be a huge difference in port load (possible number of passengers) on certain days. The day we had planned to head to Tulum and Akumal will have 4 ships in port that day (including a Disney ship!) with a port load of over 13,000. Now we're debating on a day when there are no ships in port, but a Sunday, so we'll have increased local visitors, or a day with 2 ships in port and a load of 5,000. I've seen days with 20,000! This is a great schedule of what's in port on which days, just go down to Mexico and click on the Cozumel link:
