Ok, I did the obligatory search to find past topics on whether or not there is a fitness center/gym in the area and I couldn't find anything recent.  I can eat and drink a lot more if I can work out once a day!!  So, is there a fitness place near Akumal?  or should I pack my dvd's?

there use to be a public gym in thebuilding east of the basketball court but it moved to Tulum.

Cannot comment on any gym equipment at ABR but would only be available to those taying there.

For all the room they take up - bring your DVD's - or just go for a run on the beach daily.

Where are you staying? If you're at a resort check out their amenities on their website. If you're at a condo of villa, I'm not sure if it's still there, but there was a gym in Tulum. Honestly, I'd skip the gym and take advantage of being on the beach and in a great climate with nice surroundings. Walk, run, swim, pack some resistance bands and do a workout on the beach, do beach workouts without any equipment.

I'll run on that dirt toad, not the beach.  But I do know that is probably my best option.  Maybe the bands can work too.  Thanks MM

I just ran the dirt road and put a tabata timer on my iPhone for sit-ups. That was the extent that I could do on vacation.

Will crawling back to the hotel after drinks at Cueva be enough for you?

Is the crawl getting your heart rate up, and how rubbery are your legs? If it's kind of a drag yourself along sort of thing, or if some critter (even imaginary, big or small) is chasing you, then yes, it definitely counts! And dodging the pot hole puddles and negotiating topes on the road back to Half Moon Bay, that's a balance and agility workout.

We will be staying in a villa and from what I remember, I will be getting a lot of excercsing jumping over the crabs that invade the beach when the lights go out!  No crawling back for me....I have a designated driver! My hub is a non-drinker...yahoo!

Maybe Ican ask the owner to leave some plastic sealable jugs...add water and f it's a half gallon it's a 4 lb weight!

Bands are way better than filled bottles. More of a workout and you they're really portable.

I have a nice set of 6 bands with handles and foot straps that from Black Mountain. The set was $30 and comes with a drawstring bag. Really portable and the different bands go from 2 up to 40 lbs of resistance. You can get a good workout with them in under a half hour, no driving anywhere. http://www.oxygenmag.com/Training/Articles/20-Minute-Resistance-Band-Workout.aspx

Body weight beach workouts are great too. Pick 5 exercises, do 10 reps each and do that 5x. Lots of those kind of workouts online you can find for ideas, no equipment required.

Not sure if they're still open, since we haven't been to the area since 2010, but there is a 1st class fitness place in Tulum, on 307, on the east side of the road. Right near the covi liquor store. It's in the building with the really cool railings that look like branches, second floor.

Just 15 minutes North in PA there is a gym workout place in the Omni hotel. I think they let the 'local' residents use it for a fee.
We had a small room with free weights as part of our condo rental, so check wherever you are staying as well.

Sharie,

On a serious note ( I have never done that crawl myself by the way ) there is a group that runs up the beach and then down half moon bay road every morning. Maybe you could join them?
