For those Canadians who have flown West Jet to Cancun, what were your experiences? Did you have any in-flight entertainment? Food? Beer? Good service? We usually fly Air Canada, but this time West Jet was cheaper and had much better flight times.

free pop , snacks, coffe, satellite TV (in Canada (not over the US)

Movies, food, beer are $$ via credit card

Only charters (Sunwing/Transat) give free food

Otherwise I like Westjet

However their prices this year are so $$$$$

Even Beachey is thinking about going AC

We chose Westjet this time because it was cheaper (from YYZ). Looks like in the west , AC is cheaper. Hmmmm.

Definitely WestJet! I don't care how much Air Canada is, I don't fly with them. AC is full of miserable attendants! Usually that is. WJ is full of fun people. They are friendly, they joke around, they try to make your flight as good as possible.

My opinion though.

Cheers!

Doug

You know the old saying, S### rolls downhill. When a company is "full of miserable attendants" it can only be because management makes them that way. If WJ is full of fun, friendly people, then that must be the environment that their management is fostering. It likely costs them more money to do that.
I agree with you, Doug. Caugh up a little more coin to reward good management and ensure the availability of that kind of service in the future.

West Jet gives shares in the company to all its employees so they are invested in its success.......if West Jet does well...so do they. I also find the attendants very friendly and funny on West jet.

I like flying West Jet but to go down south I really prefer Sunwing...love that they still give a hot meal...free glass of wine with your meal...sparkling wine on take off to toast your trip and a free movie. Their attendants are always fun and friendly also.

Agree CB7. Sunwing and even Air Transat are both superior imho!

Yeah, I like Air Transat because I can upgrade to clubclass too. More luggage and everything included such as drinks and more seat room.

We usually go AC and fly on points. They've changed their point system (and it sucks now), so we are going Westjet. Westjet had a better price.

Like AC, you pay for alcoholic drinks and food (other than a micro size snack). Westjet you have to pay ridiculous 5.99 for a movie (AC - free). Westjet has tv for tree.

Think this trip I'm watching stuff on my iPad...!

Flew WJ from Van to Cancun one week ago and taking the return in a wk. Movies (new releases) are now free until WJ reaches a new contract with their satellite provider. All satellite is blocked off when flying through the US.

I don't find the service much different than any other provider unless you go business class.. which is a treat. . Sunwing/ Air Transit is nice because of the free meals(?)... which aren't exactly gourmet but they save you from spending $ in flight on the same boring offerings.

Westjet.... they seem to take off and land safely. That's all that matters to me Go for it if it's a deal. Maybe pack your own sandwich.

We use WJ out west due to the direct flights out of Kelowna and the price (eg. $199 one way on Dec 8/rtn 339... woohoo!).  I am not as negative on AC as some.  Their inflight entertainment (free) just won an award...on our flight home from Europe in Sept, they even had season 1 of Game of Thrones from HBO plus two seasons of Big Bang Theory!!!  The last 2 flights on WJ my screen did not work and we were advised to kick the box under the seat until something happened...nothing did.

I also just wrote a complaint note to WJ about my pet peeve: their non enforcement of the carry on rules: Excerpt: "I am not allowed to bring a 110 ml container of sunscreen on board nor a sealed water bottle for "security" reasons yet numerous people carried on 4 - 750 ml bottles of booze in glass from the duty free...WTH?????" Got a form letter in reply in spite of them being out of compliance with every element of their own carry on policy on every flight I was on in 2012.  Don't get me started....So much for the customer service model.  Plus several flights were late with no explanation.  So they ain't perfect.

I always fly Westjet unless their pricing is way out in left field. Air Canada staff are too miserable and seem to forget they are in the service industry. I have never had a bad Westjet experience, ever. Air Canada on the other hand is more often than not. Just my experience.

Westjet lost one of our suitcases this trip.

To their credit, they did find it and it arrived at our condo a day and a half later. Westjet has a missing baggage website but it isn't terribly useful to tell what the heck is going on with it - still showing the same status as when we reported it missing.

Even their baggage agent at CUN had no idea it was on its way this morning (came on the first YYZ-CUN flight this morning so it was in the air when I spoke to him - btw, he spoke excellent English).

By the looks of it my suitcase went YYZ to parts unknown, parts unknown back to YYZ, and finally to CUN (it missed the last YYZ-CUN flight yesterday).

From the time it reached CUN, it took about 8 hours to get to Akumal - I expect the baggage service has scheduled runs to places along the RM so it had to wait for the next one. No matter, I was on the beach with a cold cerveza for most of that time!

The real test of all these airlines is how they handle adverse circumstances - weather delays, lost baggage, mechanical problems, missed conne tions. Just ask anyone who was recently stuck on the ground at YYZ for 17 hours (7am flight left at midnight) it was worth saving $100 a ticket to go Sunwing instead of AC or Westjet.
