the weather has improved greatly in Akumal and we are having a great time (sigh - only 1 week left) Talking to some other regulars at ABR yesterday the other thing that is missing are the hammocks..I forgot about them. Will post more towards the end of our stay. I also finished reading Tulum by David Seth Michaels, good read, he puts some facts & history of the area together with a fictional story. He has definitely seen the changes and it has insights into the changes in this region. Cheers, Linda http://mermaidskissgallery.com/photography/yucatan-13.html

Quiet, don't say anything about Holbox. It's a terrible place full of pirates and located in the middle of a mosquito, crocodile and snake infested swamp. I don't know why anybody would want to go there. Besides that the long, tiny potholed dirt track road to get there from Cancun is a death trap just waiting for unsuspecting tourists. Oh and I forgot to mention, the only way to get there is on a leaky, rotting wooden ferry powered by tiny, loud, smoking outboard motors. It's so slow all the sharks following the ferry have no problem swimming in circles around the it while it is under way. And if you survive the ferry ride the pirates are waiting on the far dock to take you hostage and/or steal you blind. If you get past the pirates then you are facing the Holbox death march to your hotel, a long hot trek along a narrow path with things jumping out of the jungle at you every step of the way. Nope, you don't want to go to Holbox, and please discourage anyone else you hear talking about it to stay away also. Keep your friends safe and keep them away from Holbox.
