Heading down to Playa Caribe in a week. Since it's -38 Celcius with the wind chill here in Ottawa this morning - can't wait!! For those of you who love coffee and stay in the condos, what is the best brand to buy in the Roo? We like rich dark beans - anything from Costa Rica or Honduras?

We pack our own, we like it dark too. I haven't found a great coffee there, I think all the good Mexican coffee doesn't make it into the grocery stores. Maybe the really high end resorts have good coffee, but most of the others we stayed at before we went condo had crap.

Interesting to read this as I sit here drinking my fresh brewed Caribou brand of lightroast. I love my morning coffee @ home & then stop @ coffee shop on way to office & grab a depth charge. ( coffee w/ shot of espresso) on wkends wife & I go to our small town coffee shop & hang out to visit. I agree it is difficult to find good coffee when in the Roo. Have never thought to bring from home though. I also drink tea so I usually bring my favorite tea along instead.

[size=3]We like dark Colombian. I don't buy coffee any more in Mexico as its too weak for us. We bring a can of KIRKLAND COLOMBIAN SUPREMO from Costco Its about $13.00 for three pounds!!!!

We did the same thing at the ABR, brought our small coffee maker and our own creamer and coffee. Much cheaper this way too.

Thanks for all the responses and ideas. Often we do bring our favorite coffee from home, but we have traveled around the world and it is always nice to find some new local treasure that we haven't tried before. I just thought some of the regulars to the area might have discovered something good.

All the people I know, who are regulars down there, rave about the Chiapas Coffee. At ABR, for the cappuccino, and espresso, they use a brand called KOBA, chiapas coffee. I found a big bag of it at a store in Tulum, called Pool. It's a vendor store, but you can purchase anything they have. I didn't look for it anywhere else, just happened to notice it, and then saw that it was what they used at ABR.
