You can get almost anything you want down there at Chedraui or Soriana or Walmart. No need to take things with you, You can buy good stuff at the airport duty free. It seems like a lot to go through for some booze.

I hope all that fluid doesn't put your luggage overweight! You can pickup liquor at the dutyfree on your way to customs, as long as your plane comes thru a regular gate! We got messed up last trip as there was no gate available for us and we deplaned on the tarmac and were bused to customs, missing the dutyfree. The Chedraui in Puerto Aventuras worked perfectly for us.

There are plenty of good wines available there in stores like Chedraui's and even Sam's club. South American and Spanish are very adequate but admittedly it can be hit or miss so don't get the very low price wines. I can't see the logic of taking box wines unless you like really cheap wine. And there are excellent liquors like Tequila (Herradura Reposado is our favorite - try placing it in the freezer for a few hours or overnight - it is like a nice syrup), and try the 8 year old Cuban rum, and the 7 year old "Cuban style" rum by Bacardi - very excellent. Go with the flow, that is what they are good at. If you like Bourbon or Scotch etc these are available....but the price is right, especially at Chedraui's and Sams on the tequila and rum. We make our own diet pinacolodas and margaritas by buying the Mex equivalent of Crystal light but they have the Red hibiscus flavor, the lemon and orange flavor, and we mix a strong solution of that as the syrup, a third coconut juice from a coconut, some fresh lime squeeze and rum or tequila...and either make with ice cubes or throw them all in a blender with ice to make some amazing frozen margaritas, pinacoloda's etc. Enjoy ! How do you get the signature line with the swimming turtle ? Hans S.

American box wine is way cheaper than Canadian box wine, so I usually take 3L of wine from duty free, and I've found 2 white wines in Mexico, that I LOVE (one is Chilean, the other is Argentinian, and they're delicious!). We are going for a month, so I will take my 3L of wine from DF and will then be buying 2 cases (12 bottles ea) of the Chilean white). Friends are coming for 10 days, and she's a wino like me! Couple of years ago we had 7 bottles in our luggage, they asked what it was, but there were no problems.

Don't know what Fins buys, but I found a Chilean wine called Concha y Toro to be very good, now I like reds and found their wines quite good, a number of folks swear by their Sauvignon Blanc, there was a recent thread on this if you do a forum search. I know I found some at both the San Francisco in Tulum and Chomak.

Concha y Toro makes a couple of reds we like....Castillio Diablo and Frontera. The Carmeniere is awesome and the Cabernet / Merlot are both good. We did find some at the Chedraui in PA.

We've brought box wine several times without any problems, but the weight/baggage restrictions are starting to curtail that. We just pick up liqour in the duty free if needed.
