On the North end of Playa just south of the road Bodega Aurera is on there is a self serve Pemex. The attendant is there for any issues but you clear the pump, fuel up and pay the man! never thought I'd see the day!

Cool, maybe Pemex has gotten the message that the scam artists are hurting their business.

I think the scams maybe a thing of the past. The last time I got gas 1/1/13. The Pemex attendant asked me to watch him clear the pumps and wanted me to watch him pump the gas. There were sign all over the place, with a numbers to call if you got scammed or thought you did or if you got wrong change. The attendant would not take the money until after he pumped the gas. The guy was so nice I tipped him!

If I recall correctly, each Pemex station has a station identification number displayed on the sign. It would sure be nice to get a list of honest stations. I too have had the most luck in Playa and the one right beside the Easyway car rental location in Cancun.

I will actually go out of my way to uses a self serve - that's a game changer. The gas fill up has typically been the most dreaded moment of nearly all our trips!

Hmmm, good to know. I will try and remember to write those numbers down in February. Heading to Playa, Akumal and down to Mahahual and Bacalar on our trip. Little bit of driving.

Cheers!

Doug
