Is it recomended to go there in a rental car? A few years back we started down there but did't really know what was there, now we would like to spend a day exploring the area...Anything we should know or do along the way?Leaving from oasis tulum.

It is a LONG BUMPY ride! I think everyone should drive it at least once! Its very desolate and the beaches are really deserted, with lots of garbage:( One of the beaches we stopped at had to be the Beach of One Lost Flip Flop! But the lagoon side is pretty cool and really calm, but i was too busy watching for Crocs to really enjoy a swim!

I had fun driving that road! If you love to drive challenging roads this is for you, It was like driving on the surface of the moon when we went to Xamach Dos a couple of years ago. Flat tracked it back from there to the Zona in Tulum in just over an hour. We'll do it again when we have the time. This trip our three weeks is already filled.

Depending on the rain and the groomong it can be a easy trip, or a kidney buster. The beaches are somewhat littered with flotsom but they are deserted! Well worth the trip even if it takes all day. Puenta Allan is just the turning around place, the journey is the adventure!

It can be a lot of fun, last time I drove it, I was traveling solo (could not talk anyone else into leaving ABR) so it is a little hard to be both the driver and the navigator (who watches out for potholes). Just stopped for a couple of beers at Rancho Sol Caribe and then drove back. There is a small fee (20 or 30 pesos) to pay when you enter the Biosphere, they give you a wristband to show you have paid the fee. I could not find the proper entrance to Xamach Dos (was not well marked) or I would have also stopped there. Have fun

Once you get into the Sian there aren't any places to stop or get anything (except to get out of the car at the bridge and watch people fish) through the first half of the road except Xamach Dos. It is about half way to Punta Allen and has a small sign on the road. You'll drive by what looks to be a deserted building on your right and then XD is a few km's from there. It is a small but awesome ecotel. We took some fish out with us and they cooked it up for us. Went to visit Ron. It was kind of a dare. We met him at Lol Ha at an LG meet n greet and he said "come on out", never expecting us to show up a day later.
You can stop for a cold one.
