We were there when it first reopened. Had great service and great food. The whole resort wasn't opened yet. The Grand was still being worked on. Beach looked nice but was hard to enter the water due to a lot of rocks and lots of sea urchi s further out in the snorkeling area. Lots of I juries due to them. Lots of plumbing complaints. We had a wonderful ocean front frou d floor room...until a pipe broke. We were there 2 weeks and had to move on our last 3 days. I was there looking for a small resort for my daughters wedding. Hope, not the place for us. We chose the Palladium. There is a lot of info on tripadvisor. Do a search. I posted live during my stay.

I have been watching the other forums on this hotel

Look at the a current thread on this hotel in LGs AI forum

http://forums.locogringo.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=3

There are 2 distinct parts to this resort

The cheaper - jungle section restricts your use of the facility's restaurants / bars so upgrade if you can

VSD, I am watching the TA reviews as well...bizzarre and conflicting set of opinions, esp the last two!  The place has promise as an alternative to ABR but will have to see a few less 1/5 before I leap (or a trusty LG review)...will someone please go there for a few days and give us the straight goods?

We booked in october for feb 5 to 15, didn't even hear of the split then we are pretty easy to please so we'll see what its all about.I've read hundreds of reviews since then, but i am a true believer in" i have to see it for myself".I will give an honest report for a group of six ranging in age from 12 to 70 upon return.I am sure it will be awsome,it has to be better than all this snow and cold here in Alberta....ha ha. Adios

A group of 12 stayed at this resort it was great. The beach Yes it had a few rocks towards the pier If you moved south it became very sandy . Found the staff friendly and very helpful, talked to Bartender asked if they could serve the drink to us on the Beach and they Brought out a waitress
And she was out there for our whole weak there.
We had the garden room
Very nice room clean and bed had pillow top mattresses. As for the À la cart we had 3
different types for the weak there.
4/5 I would go back in a heartbeat!!!

I was finally fed up with all the bad reviews on this place so we just cancelled and booked at the Iberostar Tucan in the Playacar complex today. It will be my first time bringing my kids to Mexico so I want them to have a pleasent experience.. otherwise I would probably stick it out at the Oasis Tulum.

I would be careful rebooking now though - reviews are very poor since Oasis took over and split it into 2 sections

Playacar is like staying in Santa Monica. Not a whole lot of Mexico going on there. The entire beach is wall to wall resorts.

I think he made a good choice with kids. Not enough activities for the kids yet. I would not bring my kids to the Oasis. Beach is too rocky and too many urchins. Sounds like we got the opening grand treatment. Reports aren't looking too good. Give em time, hopefully.
