I can see how it could happen, at night or after a few drinks, with impaired judgement....
Such a tragic thing to happen on vacation.

Well yeah, I suppose.
I've never tried to cross the road in that condition, so maybe that's why I couldn't wrap my head around it. That makes sense.
How are you guys? We were just talking about you.

My wife has always been very strict about using the crosover. Myself I prefer to take the short trek just crossing the road & dodging traffic. Now that I have seen this ( hope she has not ) I will follow her wishes in using the crosswalk. I cannot imagine how the indcident occured but feel sorry for all involved.

two years ago on new years day we were leaving akumal after a great breakfast at TB...as I pulled onto 307 to the retorno, heard that awful squeal...as I turned back south...a collectivo had hit a girl on a bike, pretty sure she biked right out in front of him, I actually remember seeing her as we passed...awful part is everyone jumped off the collectivo and ran across the road...hubby made me turn back...no one had checked her... hubby did but...the driver asked him "muerto?" Si : (.... the entire trip I was freaked...last time down a tourist couple got off the bus at Bahia, and passed in front of it right onto the hwy...we locked up our tires..thankfully they made it across but....pretty sure someone crapped thier pants...seriously, it's a HIGHWAY!!!!
