Going to Grand Oasis Tulum. Anyone have update on status on reported construction there? Or any other reviews on this resort? Haven't been there in a while.

I was looking into switching to there several weeks back with all the ABR talk and the response I got was that the end of December was the target for finishing construction. When I followed up (last email was Dec 13th), they said they were still on track.

That may have been more in reference to rooms and not construction in total though....

We stayed at Oasis Tulum in November right in the middle of construction and it didn't bother us at all. By now they should have made substantial progress. Half of the resort was closed - the rootop bar, main lobby, infinity pool and the pier was closed and damaged but we got a good deal so we were very happy. We are going back in May and for the price, as far as I am concerned there are really only two original AI's on the best snorkeling bays that are relatively small and well priced (rip Club Maeva) - the ABR and Oasis Tulum. Would love to hear from anyone who has been there since November. I did a report on the Trip Report forum you may want to look at. I'm sure you will have an awesome trip.

Thanks Noodle

I have been monitoring the Trip Adv forums and there seems to be a division on which Oasis Tulum section you book

Ocean front / pre-owned condos - $$$ and access to all restaurants
Garden rooms - $ restricted / less use to restaurants

Ocean / beach - more rock. lots of sea urchants - lots of injuries for these - not as good as Akumal

So far - I will wait for better reviews before I book

I just booked my trip on Sunday to Oasis Tulum. Now looking at the reviews on TA it looks like there are 2 hotels here... Grand Oasis Tulum and Oasis Tulum. When I was booking on bookit I had the choice of a Grand Garden View or a Garden view... it didn't say what the difference was so we chose just the garden view since it was cheaper. My wife and I are bringing our 2 kids that are under 12 so I am not too worried about not going to all the restaurants since they won't be allowed in any of them besides the buffet anyhow. I just want to make sure we don't get stuck with a crappy room and we do have access to all the pools. I might just upgrade once we get there if we can.

I am also trying to figure out this Grand vs. not Grand. I have also tried to adjust my reservation (couldn't get flights out on the day we were booked). Now they don't have the Non-grand garden rooms available. Think I might just change to an Oceanfront and then if we feel the need to upgrade to grand, do it when we get there?

We also have 2 other families looking at joining us. One family has 3 kids, does anyone know if they have roll away beds or would they need to get 2 rooms?

Any other trip reports or any current info would be helpful. Will miss ABR, but kids make it too expensive there this year!!! (plus, the lack of the Moonrise makes me sad:(

Oh jeesh! I should get my ticker going!!!

From what I have found doing some research is that there are 2 hotels there. The Grand Oasis Tulum and the Oasis Tulum. If you book a grand room then you have access to all the restaurants, infinity pool, and the roof top bar. We are going to see if we can upgrade when we get there since now when we look for the dates we are going they are fully booked. The reason we picked this hotel is because it is close to Xel-ha and Akumal beach and the price is right for brining a large family with.

Someone tried to upgrade after they got there

They had no luck (but $$$ and perhaps sitting in on their timeshare presentation may help)

I didn't know they had timeshare there. We were never approached.
If the family gets a basic room and not a ocean front in the regular section they will be cramped with a cot. The rooms are small. Now the OF rooms are huge. They used to be condos. Our room had a pull out couch with lots of room in front and around! I don't know how many they allow per room.
