Hi, I'm looking for info on Chac Hal Al caleta south of Puerto Aventuras. Google maps shows that there is a road there, but would like to hear from someone who's been there what the best way in is. Thanks!

Are you referring to the Chac Hal La condos in P.A.?

No, not the condos. This is a small lagoon just south of PA that Google has labeled as Chacalal. I found out that it is really known as Chac Hal Al. I think it may be privately held land as there is not much there. I saw pics posted of it that included a Mayan ruin just off the shore. It looks like a cool place to check out, but don't know if there is a way in from 307. The map shows a road, but it may be locked gate. It's possible the only way in is by beach.

thought I would bump this back to page 1 as I too would love to find out if there is access. Have see it from ocean side during snorkeling & fishing trips & would love to get a closer look.

Two years ago I walked from the Barcelo to the ruin by way of the shoreline. It was rather treacherous to say the least! There were several people there and one couple rode bikes from PA. I have no idea which direction they came from though. They told me the land was going to be developed soon . I read on another forum that they have now put up a fence around the ruin.
This is an interesting article which I believe to be about Caleta Chakalal.

I believe there is a trail off the roadnthat has condos on the south end of the little Marina area between PA and Barcelona. I am there in 3 Aksel so I may try & find it.

Very interesting read. In Peissel's, The Lost World of Quintana Roo. He references a Chakalal Lagoon and location of Temple of Yochac. Close to what he lists as Pamul, this is between Playa and Akumal.

I love that book! He has 2 pictures in it of the ruin. They are identical to the ones I've taken. I've been there twice, both times along the shoreline to get there and then the jungle path to get back to the resort. There were no trespass signs posted on the path but luckily I saw no one . I'd love to access it by boat in the future . Walking is not fun and I really don't want to end up in a Mexican jail! I did walk part of the way down the "road" that leads to 307. There is a house about half way. I couldn't tell if someone lived there or not. It was kind of creepy and scary so I quickly turned around. I have to say, this is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. When I first came around the bend in the shoreline, I was overwhelmed with the beauty and how "untouched" it was. I'm afraid that is all changing soon.

Bumping this up to see if anyone has found access yet? I'd love to go back for more exploring but really don't want to break the law!

Yes it exists as we found it when we were there a couple wks ago. 2 ways to get there. Easy short way is to walk along Fatima Bay beach going towrads the channel on south end. You can see. Barcello. Resort on other side. There is a spot where you can swim across the channel to nice sandy beach on other side. Walk up to the left and follow trail around to a small lagoon. Look to west end of lagoon and there it is.

Long way is hard to walk like you are heading out to the highway. Just after you go by boat channel turn left by the nice condos. Follow road way back to end where on your right you see. A new entry way road being built. Walk thrum there past new guard house. Walk and follow new roadway along ways keeping tonthe left. You will get close to fence by Barcelona. Keep going left. It looks like you made a full circlenheading north again and watch fornolder looking trailnon right that heads to the ocean. Follow this around and it will lead you to the ruins.

If you're staying on Fatima Bay in the condos, most of them have kayaks and you can paddle over. There are signs posted for NO SWIMMING in the channel, so...........well.........okay.

You can get close to there by the road - there is construction going on, they're adding a huge new phase to PA. I took the car around the other day but couldn't get right to the cenote, but I'll try again another day soon, or Quickie said he'd take me in the golf cart. Other people here have been over many times by kayak....I might give in and try that way.

Thanks everyone! Did anyone see a "No Trespassing " sign? The last time I went from the Barcelo, there was a sign by the ruin and one at the beginning of the jungle trail headed back. I'd love to visit one more time before "progress" changes it
