Pelicanos .... right on the beach. Haven't been there in a while, but from what we can remember the food was decent. Enjoy PM - it's a really cute little town. Donna

The little mexican cooking school. This Feb will be our second time there. It is a class with lots of food, fun and info. It was great.

Yes Twirley, their food is good and Betty is a sweet gal, but they screwed up my eggs twice, dang how hard is it to fry a couple of eggs without turning the yolks into hockey pucks

Hi Shanener, We have been to Puerto Morelos for two weeks the last 4 years in a row. We have tried almost every restaraunt. We like... Cantina Habanero (best) for: burger and fries, almond encrusted grouper (amazing), drinks and atmosphere in the evening. When you arrive in Puerto Morelos, you will see a street (with a center boulevard) heading north from where all the taxis are (at the town square). Go north up the street about 1/3 of a block and look for the Cantina on the left. Palapa roof. Tacos.Com: good fish and shrimp tacos and an assorment of interesting and tasty sauces. This place is three or so doors away from the Cantina Habenero (close to the two square). Try the green sauce, it's amazing. Argentinian or Brazilian Steak House (excellent): If you are standing in front of the church and looking at it, the restaraunt is 1/2 way up the block on the street to your left. Ojo de Agua: located two long blocks from the town square and right on the beach. Good all around. Pelicanos: Very dissappointing. Such a lovely place but the food was sub-standard. Steak was small pieces of meat cut up (and tough), and the shrimp were cold and chewy. Very expensive for what you get. Suggest just drinks....it is a lovely place to sit. There is a new restaraunt that we have been hearing a lot about. Located on the last street before the pier, turn left and go 1/2 a block. Located on the beach. We will be trying this place in one weeks time. Any of the restaraunts surrounding the town square are not as good as Cantina Habenero. Upstairs places are bland and we have had unattentive service. The only OK restaraunt adjacent to the town square is El Pirata (kinda of bland but OK). The others (upstairs or on street level) are too expensive, not that great and they charge more than the places mentioned above.

We stayed at Oceans Turquesa outside of Puerto Moreles in 2009 and spent some time in PM. You may enjoy going to CrocoCun a small zoo with local reptiles and mammals at the 307 entrance to PM. Also, for about $25 a boat will take you out to the reef for some good snorkeling. Souvenirs and crafts are very reasonable - we got some nice hammocks for around $20 each in town. If you are walking around, you may want to go inland a block or two to the main street - there is a vacant lot which is a coati mundi preserve - dozens and dozens of them so you may want to bring a box of cereal to feed them - across the street is a very unique house that looks like a sand castle. Have a good time!

I went to Ojo de agua with a friend of the owner last year and I still wasn't impressed. And I had plenty to drink so I was in a good mood. I won't go back there.

The others (upstairs or on street level) are too expensive, not that great and they charge more than the places mentioned above. We were there for the month of August... The "Argentinian Steak House" is Al Chimichurri, excellent steak but not on the beach The "new restaurant " is likely Merkadito de Mar, excellent seafood, excellent service, and right on the beach... blew Pelicanos out of the water in my book. La Playita... a few doors further down from Merkadito is a more "old school" seafood place with mostly locals the 2 times we were there. If you are looking to have a whole fried fish, this was an excellent place to do so. Loncheria El Tio is on the same street just short of Merkadito and the most authentic/local of the restaurants we tried. Ate lunch there every other day while we were in PM! If you are looking to shop, check out the Mayan Handicraft Market. Walk past Al Chimmichurri, away from the square and keep going a block or so. It will be on the right. A long "mall" of shops with the nicest items we found and best prices in town.

ORIGINAL: CurlSnout Yeah, I think it's Pescero on the 2nd floor, right Fiona? We've enjoyed that a good bet amongst the "on the square" options. quote:
El Pesquero Snout, I think you may be thinking of Casa del Pescador... second floor on the northwest corner of the square. Unfortunately this restaurant has closed. El Pesquero is on the road near El Mekadito (lighthouse/beach front road... near Loncheria El Tio)... nice palapa and seafood, not on the beach but has a beachy feel.
