Easyway now have an office in Tulum, and they'll pick you up at your resort to do the paperwork. It's right across from the new Chedraui

They also have an office in PDC but Tulum is closer.

I saw a pretty bad report on the upkeep of the Easyway Tulum vehicles though

Lack of selection, did not have what a couple reserved, and the vehicle they got broke down a few times

Would their prices be the same as the airport?

I rented once from ABR (back when Venta was running the place, during swine flu thing) thru the desk Thrifty had there at the time, cost me $60 for the day for a brand new Dodge Atos with full coverage and zero deductible. Airport is cheaper but if you just want one for a day or two and are willing to pay for the convenience factor, yes it is doable at most resorts. Easyway and other rental places are in Tulum as another option. I read the same bad report on the Easyway Tulum office as Sundog did, it also stated they had a shortage of cars (new office, sure they will get this taken care of in time) so reserve in advance if possible if you choose to use them. I have used their airport location many times with no problems at all.

A few years ago, we rented a car in Akumal for a couple of days. We got it from TSA out behind the dive shop and next to Imelda's. The car was right there and in good shape. I think that it ended up being through a national company. The funny thing was that they wouldn't give us 0 deductible. t was like 10% ded instead.

Recently I priced out renting a car in Akumal and returning it to the airport for our May trip on Cancun Rent-a-car's website. The rates seemed reasonable.

With all the negative reports one reads re: rip offs at gas station, police tickets , etc I would be hard pressed to have to rent a vehicle. We found that wherever we want to go it is easy just using the collectivo service ro a taxi. I am not so sure I would feel good about renting a vehilce.
