Sure! You can buy a prepaid Telcel SIM card here. When you run out of credit, just just buy another card or most of the supermarkets and gas stations can add credit from their register. That said, data's not that cheap ;). Personally, I live here and don't use mine much. There's wifi at most restaurants, so it's easy to go that way.

I've had a TelCel Amigo phone for years now. It's the pre-paid phone, same thing as Scott mentioned. Got it I think 5 yrs ago, maybe 6. It was actually cheaper to get the phone then just the SIM card. If there's no activity on the phone for 4 months you're supposed to lose the credits, and I believe 6 and you lose your number. I use babblebug.com to do a "top up" of $10 when we travel plans won't have be back in Mexico to buy the cards for credit. I've never yet lost credits or the number and I'm pretty sure at least twice I've forgotten and not done the top up in time. Calls the the US and Canada are cheaper then on our International plan on the US phone I have. To get the discount rate you have to set your phone up with a code, but they can do that for you in the store. There are TelCel stores in Playa and Cozumel that I know for sure. There may be one in Tulum now too. The cards (credits for the phone) are sold at OXXO and just about every convenience and grocery store. For data I don't use the TelCel phone. It's too pricey, eats up credits. WiFi on my US phone or use any internet enabled mobile device on WiFi.

There used to be a Telcel kiosk at the Chedraui mall in Playa. Check the price of the SIM card and also whatever Amigo phone promo they have at the time. When I got mine some years back, it was cheaper to get the phone then just a card.
