Hola,
We all just returned from Cozumel and I want to be the first to tell you what a fantastic time was had and what a great bunch of peeps to be on vacation with. I love ya all, you guys rock !!!!!!
We all stayed at the Iberostar resort in Cozumel and I found it to be my new favorite resort in Cozumel. The grounds are set up in a jungle type atmosphere with peacocks and iguanas all over the resort.

The food at the buffet restaurants was your typical buffet food however we ate one night at the steakhouse and one night at the Mexican restaurant and found both to be outstanding. There were four bars at the resort, the lobby bar, a beach bar, a swim up bar and a bar in the pool restaurant. We spent most of our time hanging out on the beach right next to the beach bar, with banos right behind the bar, and facing the ocean and pier.

We all had rooms real close to the beach and the dive shop which was located right next to the pier. I swear my room was less than 50 yards from the dive shop and pier. That was a big convenience for me because the boats came back to the pier between dives so if I needed anything or had to use the bano in my room it was a two-minute walk. I would take advantage of this often as sometimes I only took my camera on the second dive and occasionally I would have to use the bano because I promised mother nature I wouldn't pee in her ocean. LOL........ BTW, we both kept our promise, I didn't pee in her ocean and the Norte that was hangin' out the week before we arrived blew over before we got there. Wooo Hooo !!!

The diving was some of the best I have experienced in the 20 years I've been diving.
The visibility was 100+ feet and the seas were always flat. Besides all the normal things we see we were fortunate to see two black tip sharks along with several nurse sharks. On one of our dives while on Punta Sur reef we saw 12 eagle rays which is unheard of. At one point there were five of them hovering right over our heads within 10 feet. It was an incredible sight to see. When we returned to the boat the dive master told us the reason they were hanging right over our heads was that our bubbles tickled their tummys.
I'm sorry I don't know how to post pictures but Noel (Morning Dive) has some great pictures of the eagle rays that I'm hoping either he or Jane will post on here.
I shot a lot of video that I burned to DVD and mailed to everyone and maybe someone can figure out how to downsize and post.

On one of the snorkel boat excursions they got to see a pod of dolphins swimming with the boat. Nipper has some pictures of this that I'm sure she will be posting here shortly.
Hopefully all the others that were on the trip will be posting their pictures on this thread also.

We all agreed to come back to the Iberostar next year for "CAFB 2013". We would welcome anyone who would like to join us for some great diving and snorkeling and wonderful camaraderie.

Peace, Bimmy

EDIT....Calling everyone else from the trip to jump in on this thread and post pics and give a report.

This trip report is really interesting to me given that the ABR is so uncertain now. I was in Cozumel in 93 and 96, 2 weeks each for diving, and really loved it. The snorkeling was wonderful.

I am tentatively on the list for a CAFB 2013.

None of the ohers knew Ron and I would be there. We met Schanuzerdog and Morning Dive at the Montreal airport. They thought it was a coincidence and we were heading to Roatan. Nope, same plane as them to Cozumel and on to the Iberostar. I wish I had a picture of Bimmy's face when he saw me walking toward him by the pool, just after we arrived. Moon sort of interrupted the bingo game when she saw me. It was so much fun to surprise them!

Glad you all enjoyed the Iberostar and your time on Cozumel. We've stayed there twice and loved it. Can't wait to get back to Cozumel in February.

Glad you finally experienced why I usually spend my December's in Cozumel (and like to go down over the winter/early spring too) Great weather and phenomenal diving! I've been hearing about, and seeing photos for the last 2 wks of the Eagle Ray squadrons from on-island friends. The sandy, deep areas off the wall at Punta Sur Sur are one of the best spots to see then down south in the early part of the season. The ultimate eagle ray dives are January to early Feb up north. (Go with a smaller operator who doesn't charge extra for those dives... they'll only go though if they've got a group of experienced divers as these sites are deep walls and strip reefs with stronger current and can be a little unpredictable)

Hopefully I'll be around next year to hook up for a couple dives. I've really been missing not having a "December to Remember" this year. HATE the cold NE and all the holiday huppla... although I do love the holiday decorations and music in Mexico, go figure.

Did you guys get off the resort and around the island at all?

Our pirate ship sailed in from the mainland after a great stay in Akumal.... USA transfers were right on time and most helpful getting our luggage up the gangplank..
.

We were helped by this lovely kind man who walked our luggage to ISIS car rental place a couple of blocks from the dock

Man we were getting thirsty... aww a cool marg from Wendys!!!

Paperwork completed, car check for dents and scratches... luggage loaded. VSD ran to the bank as Margarita reminded us the ironman was tomorrow and the banks would be closed. Got some dinero for the week and navigated through downtown.

A cutizee mobile... thanks Crunch and Tomas for the info!!!

We are off... next stop Iberostar

Arrived to find a large checkin line up, waited about 30 mins to checkin while they offered a drink in line. Golfcart bought us and our luggage to the room 4211 which is on the right side smack in the middle of the resort. Hit the snackbar for some lunch and ran into Noel and Jane (Schnauz). The food was good (what was left of it) Hit the beach and bumped into Bimmy, Adrienne, Kristy, Brenda, Isaac, Ben, Deb and Bimmy’s friends. We checked out the pier admired all the fish below while watching the sunset… beautiful.

I knew you'd do that!!! and I just had to repeat it

Somewhere, sometime, I have to snorkel with Conifer water rat and Yaki Jaki at the same time. That awesome combination should find anything there is to find.
