Oh, look out you rock 'n rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
Turn and face the strange

Hmm...
Where do we go from here (Alan Parsons Project).
The times they are a-changin' (Bob Dylan).

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is - for us at least - another perfectly good reason has gurgled to the surface to push us yet in another direction - anywhere from Maroma Beach to Tulum to Isla Mujeres.

Our last two trips, May 2012 & Oct 2012 were to ABR. May 2011 & November 2011 were to HMB condos. Before that, multiple trips to GP and all three Catalonia resorts as well as a few others here and there.

For this coming May, due to the uncertainty in Akumal and our aversion to vacationing in construction zones, our options are quite wide open - we've already been poking around the ACCOMODATONS tab at the top of the page.

Great beaches? We know where they are.
Good snorkeling? We know where that is too!
Good food & fun dining options?
Adult only or fancy and opulent of basic and secluded?

We're sort of excited to "explore our options" once again...

Well put snow.

While my knee-jerk reaction to the stuff going on at the ABR was being upset and sad, I have come to my senses and now I see the positives ...for the things mentioned in your thread ...plus ...it has made me look back and appreciate just what this great little resort still has to offer. Also I'm sure that while I will definitely miss the Moonrise, I'm sure the resort has some great improvements in store, and will be even better after all is said and done.

I just spent about an hour looking back through threads, message board posts/pictures and my personal pictures. Something really jumped out at me. There's nothing to be sad about because the real star of the resort will always be there ...that wonderful little bay and all the natural beauty and life it offers. Also, the resort has a hell of a lot going for it, with or without the Moonrise.

I sure hope they don't intend on improving the air conditioning.

That would take the "charm" out of laying there all night, sweltering, trying to get some sleep.

It would take some serious improvements to ever draw me back to ABR.
And that's exactly what they are doing. Improving.

I say BRING IT!

I also heard that Wilbert is being upgraded. That is cool. I just hope they don't mess up creating Wilbert 2.0.

Well, you could go south and explore further there.

That's what we're gonna do. I have been down to Playa area so much since 2005, like 12 to 15 times I think, lost count, lol.

Am even considering moving down that way when I retire. But , wow! Has it ever grown the last few years down there. Kinda gettin crowded lately, lol. Going to Playa Del Carmen is starting to remind me of Cancun when I went there in Spring 2000. Growth and progress aren't always a good thing.

But anyways, Mahahual looks great, we are gonna check it out on our February trip. And Bacalar lagoon too. Maybe venture over to Chetamul also. Will be exciting, new territories explored. Been wanting to check it out for a couple years now.

Anyways, just my 2 bits to add.

Cheers!

Doug

I just meant that Wilbert is getting a firmware update to the new version. You thought he was human?

well, we are booked for 5 nights in January. When we booked (a couple of months ago) we had thought about Isla instead of a 3rd time a ABR but decided the beach was worth going back. I am hoping with two buildings of rooms gone the place will be even more relaxing. We do like building 6 so it is a bit away from the "construction zone" Have to see how a bar at that end pans out. I will terribly miss the Moonrise however. Might be our last year there, might not. I am hoping to see some pics b4 we go. I think as long as the beach and Wilbert are there, all will be well.

The beach will still be there and with a large enough Bubba mug all should be well.

You will like PM Kafoka. The Reef is lovely. Great snorkeling, fishing, beautiful beach and tons of places to eat and drink.

Any advice you wish to share would be great -
AND bonus - there is a swing/beach bar right next to the house we rented - a moonrise, so to speak

The reef is fantastic. But unlike Akumal, you have to pay to see it and wear a really annoying life preserver.
