Any advice on a guided or unguided day trip from Akumal to Tulum and a different trip to a nearby cenote. We are totally good with collectivo or taxi, don't need a tour company etc.. We would like to visit the ruins again and hang on the beach, have a lunch etc..don't know anything about the cenotes, never have been to one, we are all novice snorklers..thanks

Not too familiar with the cenotes in the Tulum area, maybe visit Manatee Cenote across the road from Casa Cenote on Tankah Bay? You would need a taxi or rental car, long hot walk from 307. Casa Cenote has pretty good food and do a nice Sunday BBQ (TwirleyB wrote about her recent visit in her trip report) or one of the nice beach clubs on the southern Tulum beaches would be good also.

Grand (or Gan) Cenote is kind of fun. It's on the Coba road, right side of the highway heading out of Tulum. It is partially covered with a high ceiling, and you get to see rock formations. Every cenote is diffiernt. Some are heavily lined with plant life (like Manatee) others have more rock formations. Check out a couple.
