PART 2

CabinBoy and AnotherBob stopped in at CEA to find out when the next turtle release was. It turned out to be that night. CabinBoy and I went and I must admit it was one of the highlights of our trip. Seeing those little guys struggling through the sand, beginning their journey and realizing that only 1 in a thousand will return really puts into perspective the important work that CEA and their volunteers do. So please, if you're in the area, give up one Mango Margarita and give that to CEA. Our group dropped off a donation of about 600 pesos. BTW, we learned that the CEA donation box is sometimes pilfered as they find all sorts of “peso fishing” equipment left in the box, so it is best to go into the CEA office and personally drop off any donations.

They are a bit grainy ... but you get the picture

We also went back to YalKu Lagoon with the crazy Dane's (more about that later). I remember people being upset when they put all the statues throughout the area, but I really like them. It is so peaceful there – it almost makes up for the fact that snorkeling was not that good. We haven't been in 3 years and I was a little disappointed. I understand about the mixing of the water and can deal with that, but there were times when the water was clear and then all of a sudden it was brownish. We didn't see as many fish as we did the first time we snorkeled there. It was still fun …. just different.

These are the lockers that you can rent for $3.

Here's a picture of the inside

They are also building new bathrooms - business must be good !

After snorkeling, we all stopped at LBV for a couple of cold ones and CabinBoy and Lasse headed up to the crow's nests.

We were very surprised to see the road work that was going on on Half Moon Bay.

THE GROUP
Our group consisted of 22 people …. old and young … all of whom have at least one thing in common .. their love of CRT. The second grouping started arriving on the 13th – they get the award for coming from the farthest – Denmark. PlayaJim and our social butterfly, Rose, arrived on the 16th. Detroit arrived next – on the 17th along with the first part of Humphrey's family (more about Humphrey later !). Humphrey's mom and dad and grandparents arrived on the 19th.

Here is the S.H.*.T. Welcoming Committee !

The 17th was CabinBoy's birthday and since we wouldn't be there for AnotherBob's birthday on the 24th, we celebrated both of them together. The crew that was there gathered at the Mexican Restaurant where we were treated like royalty. Stories were told and gifts were exchanged. And the cakes ? ? 17 layers of pure heaven. They definitely outdid themselves …... again !

Wondering about the silverware on CabinBoy's cake ? Look for the explanation later in the trip report.

The 18th was Lasse's birthday – that was celebrated the next day again at the Mexican Restaurant.

And Birgette's birthday was also being celebrated since it was another “decade milestone” (I'm not saying --- so don't ask) and it was celebrated on the 20th. A great night with a very big surprise (more about that later !).

Sometimes you just have to put up a picture of an inside joke .... and this is just one of those times. If the "guys" want to 'xplain, it's up to them.

Next installment -- pinatas, school supplies, the big surprise and friends we met !

Donna

Looks like a lot of fun!

We had a great time at Yal Ku. Especially all the Blue Tangs.

However, what is up with that brown water? We got stuck in it and it took about 15 minutes to get through it coming in from the far reaches. I could see my hand if I stuck it in front of my face, but nothing else but brown. It was kind of creepy although it didn't stop me going through it twice.

You look like everyone is having a great time, so glad for another wonderful trip report from the S H * Ts, great pictures.
Darn shame about some lowlife taking CEA donations, however I was not aware they had a donation box or where it is.

Jamie, yes, we had such a fantastic trip to CRT in October. The stories are simply endless. The trip report chapters that Donna is posting had to be just the highlights of the trip or else we would be writing for days on end. And, there are stories that simply wouldn't translate --- you had to be there ! CabinBoy keeps saying we should write a book of memories covering all of the trips and antics & crazy stunts we have pulled. But, readers would put it in the "fiction" (maybe "fantasy"?) category however and never believe 1/2 of it.

As for the CEA donation box pilfering -- when I dropped off the donation I had a nice chat with the lady in the CEA office. She said that they find all sorts of things like bent paperclips, fish hooks, string, and other evidence that people have tried to pull donations OUT of the box. I hope that the thieves were not successful ! The box is (was?) located on the beach side of the big display area. And, FYI, when I dropped off the donation, the lady pulled out a sort of "ledger book" and wrote down the details of the donation. The CEA does such great work and I know they really appreciate donations of any amount.

AnotherBob

Great report and thank you for the information on the donation box. Didn't know they had one... Will certainly make a donation next time we are there; oh yeah, in three months :)

Thanks Another Bob, for all the info, will stop by CEA my next trip. Maybe if enough of us support them, they can buy another kayak to try and police all the snorkel tours

Thanks! There's another CEA donation box at the Super Chomak store, beside one of the check-out counters. At the end of your vacations, CEA will gladly take any unwanted pesos off your hands.
