ORIGINAL: barata Hil-larious! That's all I'm gonna say till Seagoat tells the stories. yes we are , waiting. Ok....I have a hellish cold, but I'll start with this...... My last trip down was remarkably uneventful.....this one was a lot more exciting! The night before the trip there was an omen. I left my purse at the nail salon and they were closed by the time I figured it out. Good thing I still had my wallet, passport and pesos with me. Alas, no carefully packed items such as my ipod, etc until I return. The trip down was airport hell. Arrived at Cun at 5:30 pm to crowds of travelers lined up at Immigration. The entire floor was a sea of people and they were piling up the stairs and escalators as more planes arrived. We were able to jump the line as we were travelling with children. Didn’t make much diff anyways , as we ended up at our bus waiting for all of the others to make it through the three-hour lineup. In order to maintain sanity, we purchased some beer at the vendors right outside the airport doors. Used to be a good deal when I first travelled to Mexico, but at $40 US for a six-pack, it’s now a gouge and nothing more. We sipped and waited for several hours and finally our bus departed and headed south to ABR. No beer for sale on bus and no music either.:( Things just aren’t the same anymore. We ended up doing the milk run down and finally arrived at ABR at 11:30 at night. A very long day to say the least. I didn't sleep well at all despite being exhausted. Memories of past trips kept me awake. Stayed in building four and immediately realized that our toilet was haunted. It literally made screaming banshee noises at random. It sounded like a cross between a baby crying and kitten being tortured. We learned to laugh at it in the end, although it didn't let up the entire two weeks we were there. My first snorkel out I spotted a baby tortuga right off the bat. I then ventured out into the middle of the bay where something caught my eye. It was a camera, sitting at the bottom in some coral. I was gonna get it. Not very good at diving with my snorkel, but now was my chance to practice. I tried three times…kicking up my fins and trying to get to the bottom. After several tries, I managed to get down and nabbed it....hooray! Swam to shore and realized that my snorkel vest was inflated, which explains why I had a hard time diving. LOL!. Opened up the camera and it appeared to be dry inside, but batteries were dead. Headed to the town for some batteries, beer and jewelry shopping. I stopped in at the big silver shop across from the chomak. I was looking for some red coral to match a necklace that I had taken down with me. The gentleman showed me some quite pricey pieces which were too big for my taste. I told him I thought a couple of the pieces were tacky and he seemed quite intrigued by the word. He got out his pen and asked me to repeat….I said “tacky” and in true Mexican style, he wrote it out as “taquie”. I laughed and wrote out the correct spelling and explained the meaning. He seemed very grateful about his new English word of the day. I purchased a couple of things and had a 500 peso bill left when I made it to the Chomak. I grabbed a six pack of Tecate beer and proceeded to dig out my cash. The salesgirl took my bill and then gave me a confused look and said “what is this?” I looked closer at the bill and realized that it was 500 Greek drachmas. Oh Dear! GBG would have loved this. It was a bill that had been sitting in my dresser drawer since my trip to the Greek Isles eighteen years ago and had somehow gotten mixed in with my Mexican pesos. I sheepishly took the bill back (very ungoatlike ) and she peered at me suspiciously. I hauled out the four American dollars that I had and ended up leaving in shame with only two Tecate! That night I partied a bit with Barata and also the wonderful Celtic Skulker. I had to borrow Barata’s headlamp to make my way down the dark paths, as I couldn’t find mine. CS and I ended up sitting on the beach drinking a bottle of champagne. There was no moon the entire week, so the stars were amazingly bright and beautiful. I slept well that night. More to come! ORIGINAL: Gato Nice... how to leave us all hanging! Dont make me come bang on your door and force tequila down your throat so you give me the skinny Promises, promises! Isla....the camera is in good working condition . I haven't embarked on my camera crusade to find the elusive owners yet. I'll keep you posted. ---------------------------------------------- Another beautiful, perfect snorkelling day. Packed up my beach and snorkelling gear, my wee Mexican purse with my camera, room key and some pesos in it. A few paces from room 404 to the beach. Oh oh....where is my purse?? Not in with my snorkel gear or beach gear. It MUST be in the room. Checked the room....no purse, checked the beach again...no purse. GF said report it to the lobby and was no doubt thinking that I need those strings that people use for mittens to hang onto my personal items! I went to the lobby and reported, but no one had turned anything in . Headed back to the beach and lo and behold...standing there, all tanned and clad in white, was the handsome young security guard, with my brightly coloured purse draped over his shoulder. I almost kissed him! He found it on the pathway from the room to the beach...duh! I saw some firsts when I was snorkelling this time....a beautiful, dinner-plate sized, blue and yellow queen angelfish, several squid and an icky sea cucumber. I had the opportunity to take little six year old Angelina out to the coral for the first time. She'd practiced at the pool in Calgary and a bit with Nana on the beach. I've never been with anyone who tried to have a conversation with a snorkel mask, but Angelina was so excited she couldn't contain herself. I couldn't hear most of it, but I did catch the odd "cool" and her cries of delight upon seeing various fish. A very special moment. I returned Barata's head lamp. Celtic Skulker had found mine and returned it to Barata....but Barata was under the (self-induced) weather and had forgotten that. She did eventually remember later on in the day. Glad I'm not alone sista! LOL. The next day I went on the obligatory booze cruise, aka known as the golf cart rental with So So and Gmadeb. They are convinced I'm a thief....more to follow! SG

Actually, I saw a guest give it to him. She said she had found it. He was kind of scared to take it. I didn't realize that you were missing one, or that it was yours or I'd have done something to reunite the lovely Seagoat and her colorful camera packing purse.
