Hello,
I heard that one could explore some of the lagoons in Sian Kaan without the guide/tour. Where would one get the kayaks? Is this safe enough to go by yourself? We canoed and are decent swimmers, but not much experience with the sea.

cesiak.org has a good rep but you do have to go with a guide, this is a pretty desolate area with not a lot of visitors. No idea if Xamach Dos rents kayaks, maybe someone who has stayed there can chip in. Welcome to Locogringo
