Can anyone let me know if there is an orphanage near Akumal that could you some new things when we come down in Jan.?
Any members on here let me know of any other children's groups that could use some new items so we could contact them and see what would be useful...Can't bring a lot as we are travelling fairly light...we might also be able to do some shopping there for them.

The library (Hekab be biblioteca) in Akumal is always in need of new and used items for the children that attend there, or are from the Akumal area in general. You can drop them off with Jose who works there.

It is located on the north side of the road from the hiway into Akumal beach area. It is the first place you come to on your left.

I have never been, but a few years ago I heard there was one being built in Playa del Carmen. The name was Un Hogar con amor. I don't know whether or not it's operational yet.

I do know of a couple things in Isla and also in Cozumel. If either of those destinations are in your plans, let me know and I'll pass on some info to you.

I'm sure you could check with the library staff at Hekab be and they would probably know of organizations or individual families who have specific needs.

Dr. Cowboy, aka Dr. Vaquero, at the med center in Akumal Pueblo, has mentioned to me his work at the orphanage, so he'd be a good person to contact. I believe he lives in PDC.
