Weather Channel says 83 high 60 low the next week when we're visiting ABR. I'm concerned the water might get a bit cold? Is 83/60 perfect weather or will it be a bit cool the first part of the day?

yes, early mornings / late nights are cool

Ocean still water - likely low 80s/high 70s

I was perfectly comfortable in a tank top at LBV last night. I guess "cool" is a relative term, (I rode my motorcycle to work Monday in 30 degree weather) but the weather right now is perfect. Half Moon Bay is snorkel-calm this morning but this morning we need to try to rent a golf cart.

If in dought just throw a light jacket in the suitcase and you should be fine.

It was great today. That old sun had the fog burned off by around 8 AM and both bays were smooth all day.

How were the mosquitos? I have heard that they are a bit more active this year. We usually go in Jan. or Feb. so we are not sure what to expect in November.

So, what's your opinion on going in late January - early February (that´s when we´ll be there)? Pros and cons?

I've checked the weather information, frequently asked pages... but average rain/temp/sun stats etc. only say so much. It's nicer to hear "real" opinions.

So why do you go to Akumal in Jan-Feb?

Pros:
Fewer mosquitoes
Less rain
Fewer tourists? (Is it "low" season?)
Not too hot

Cons:
Colder nights
Colder water
Windy?
No turtle hatchings.

Shorter days

The couple of times we've been on the riviera in Feb. wind has been a factor. They temp has varied from one year to another, but always sunny and warm (though maybe not hot at times). Have never been south at any other time of year so really can't compare.

Camie, actually Jan/Feb period is considered "high season." Prices are higher and (theoretically) there are more tourists. We prefer May - July timeframe. Prices are down, hotter yes, but we look for a more "tropical" climate while we are there. Water temps are great and fishing is good too.

We've spent a month there in Jan/Feb for the last few years and while it is a little cooler, the water temp has never been an issue to me. It is a little cooler at night but after you've spent some time in July it is a relief. That said, my wife is glad we had to postpone our trip this year for a few months and will be heading down later than usual. She said she wouldn't mind if it was warmer than January.

My friend and I will be at ABR beginning Saturday for 6 nights. The weather report looks absolutely perfect to me. Coming from Vermont mid-80's will be like a dream come true. Safe travels!

We are planning a trip for June. What should we expect weather wise, mosquitos, etc? Also, I'll have boys that like to surf with me. Are there any waves for surfing in the area? Closest beach good for surfing? Thanks--

The weather will be hotter (90-72) the humidity will be close to 80%. June has a bit more rain (ave 6 days) but it comes and goes quickly as usual..
You are on the wrong coast of Mexico for surfing. There is supposed to be a small break off Cozumel. The best waves are during the hurricanes. If you do find a break it will more than likely be over a rocky bottom or a reef and you should avoid it.

I think the standard weather forecast for this area is: the air will be warm and the water wet. If the air temp drops into the 60's the locals look for snow.

We spent 10 days, starting Feb.8 last year. We loved it. The weather was milder. We split out time at El Dorado Maroma Casitas (lucked up on this....one of those deals where you pay first and then get a 4.5 star once your payment goes thru) and then we went to Cozumel for a week and stayed at the Coral Princess. We rented a car from Rentadora Isis and went everywhere....East Side, Mr. Sanchos. It was too windy on the East side to stay in the water at this time, and I have been to Cozumel maybe 30 times but always went in October.....and never seen it like this.

Personally, any time of year I can afford to go is all plusses

But I did find the weather was milder during February.

Last week the water seemed a bit wetter than usual.

The sand was a bit more sandy also. Not sure if the two conditions are related.

I would guess the water temp as being about 78 degrees last week.
