I will be inserting pics as I can gather them.

Sit right back and you’ll hear the tale,
the tale of a fun filled trip
That started with a bunch of friends
And a mission to fulfill...a mission to fulfill…

OH, wait ...that’s not my report.  That belongs to someone else,  You will have to wait for that tail to be told!;}

Last year, our trip, as declared by Badger, was the trip that had gone to CHIT.  Some of us were.  Some of us weren’t and no one seemed “normal”.

This year the theme of the trip seems to be “The Accidental Tourists”.  I’ll get to the accident parts later.

My trip starts a little differently, with a mission. I was taking Mom for her final trip for a litlle celebration on Dios de la Muertos.  I doub’t I spelled that right.  I stayed at Cammie’s, as always, but she was already in MX .  I was up at 3AM and drove myself to the airport for the 6 AM flight.  No hitches thru Atlanta getting to Cancun. YEAH!

I was meeting my longtime friend,  known shortly on LG as Lucy Hollywood.  She always went with mom and I way back when.  She was coming from San Antonio and I had 1 hour to spare so I picked up the car at Easyway as usual and headed to Sam’s club for wine and beer.  I had been there before but an Easyway driver had driven me and I was unsure of the distance.  Fernando assured me it was not far... so off I went.  During this trip I realize that distance to the locals is much like time.  Its always longer and farther than they tell you.  About 20 minutes up 307 I found Sam’s.  They didn’t have all I wanted and there was a Wal-mart next door so I headed there.  All of a sudden I thought “CHIT”  I forgot about Lucy and I rushed out with whatever was in the cart and headed for the airport.  Found Lucy standing just where I told her waiting patiently.  Maybe not patiently but waiting still.

Off on another adventure together!!    Lucy was always the navigator, but since we know where we are going these days she has become the tope and police spotter.  Also watching for sideswiping passing taxis, stray animals and people in the road and all other obstacles in our path.  We relived previous trips as we sped down 307.   Like the first trip we noticed the “bra/boobie” signs on the side of 307.  Took hitting our heads on the roof of the car as we flew over topes at 100kmh before we got it!  They didn’t really mark them way back before the reconstruction of 307 and they were mostly large ropes.  The changes we have seen thru the years!  Now some of the topes look like launching pads and can be used as such!

We decided we could not pass up stopping at the Lol-ha for a cocktail and something to eat before going to the condo.  So we did.  There was a slight “only Twirley” story here but it can’t be posted for all eyes.  Part of it involved the fact there was only 1 tiny parking space behind the restaurant and the security guy tried directing me with parallel parking.  I was doing fine on my own but he didn’t think I was close enuf to the hedge.  We ended up IN the hedge at which point the security guy gave up and Lucy had to crawl out on my side. Then there was that other issue...if you know me well enuf, you have heard it, can imagine it or can ask me privately.

More coming but I have to fix some pics!

I had to unscramble my brain to determine the order of events... but we pre planned to run into Ms. Froggy, Cammie and Doug at Lol-ha.  We did meet up.  Froggy was waiting for Lucy and I and we found her right away.  Along came Cammie and Doug and thats when I learned that Cammie had given the flip flops that she muled down for me (that I sell to the boutique) had been given to old women in the pueblo that had no shoes.  OK...so I don't recoup that $$ but I did get over and laugh about it.  I agreed with Cammie when she said I would have done the same thing.  Doug picked up the tab for all our food and drink so no big deal. THANKS Doug!. Cept I would have enjoyed the moment of giving.  I just hope I see them on some old womens feet sometime.

Lol-ha once again was outstanding in service but 2nd in food.  (Except breakfast.  They do have great bacon and homefried potatoes.  The waffle with the mango bananna topping is fabulous and so is both egg benedict dishes.  “Charlene’s” eggs benedict is specially yummy.  I think it was a potato cake topped with spinach, goat cheese, egg and hollandaise.)  I was greeted immediately by several of the servers and Sam, the manager, came by my table and  gave me a warm welcome..  Each visit I was treated with warmth and respect by all.

Onward to the condo.  U-Nah-Kin at Aventuras Akumal.  Its just around the point from the palapa you see at the far south end from Akumal.  Been staying there since 98 and Lucy wouldn’t have felt at home anywhere else.  It is home.  It has the best beds in the world.  The owners had them custom made somewhere down there.  Better than my own bed at home!  We stayed in that evening and ordered a pizza delivered from Leo’s pizza in Chemuyil.  Always fabulous although it takes awhile.

The condo

The next AM, Monday, Cammie Doug, Lucy and I went to La Buena Vida for 11AM margaritas and snacks.  One of my favorites and the food was fabulous each time I was there this trip.  Plus they make my favorite top shelf margaritas with Gran Marnier.  Hardly any place has it.  They aren't cheap at 100.00 pesos but worth it!

Lucy and Froggy at Ziggys on Tulum Beach

Next day Lucy and I headed down to Tulum to look up Ms. Froggy.  Finally found her hidden away in the jungle!  Ms Froggy was looking good and doing well in her new spot.  CUTE place and so quiet.  Lovely with a pool just steps from her bed!  A great economical gem.  We gathered up and went to the beach.  Took 2 cars since we each had other stops.  Had some confusion of finding each other but we did rendevous at Ziggy Beach Bar next to Cabanas Tulum.  BTW the new section ($$) of Cabanas Tulum is great.  The garden and pool area is really nice.  We looked for the resident duck but didn’t find him.  We did a little shopping at the new Chedruari on the road to/from the beach.  Nice store with everything.  Including good wine selection that’s not too pricey.  Best buy on wine anywhere was Concho Y Toro.  The Sauvignon Blanc is pretty good.  The reds are really good.  Under 7.00 usd everywhere I could find it.

I got ahead of myself or forgot the sequence of events but Doug and Cammie stayed at the condo while Lucy and I went to Tulum.    It was their last full day.  Their plane left at 5 F-ing something AM on the 30th!!!!  I think they had a good day.  All I remember is them leaving at 2AM.  I promised not to go into details more than I already have on another thread but I do remember what you said as you were parting the 3rd time, Doug!  And I do remember why you were running late, Cambria!

I was waiting to see if Ms Froggy had more pics of Ziggy's beach day, but I'll continue and insert if she has some.

Tuesday the 30th, was a big day cause the rest of "our Gang" arrived!  Travelon aka Sherry and her DH Tom, my forever since birth friend Larry and his GF June, Bosco and Bernie!!    Everyone but Bernie (he arrived later and got an Easyway car)  met at the airport at the "too expensive to buy anything at" tiki bar.  Larry and June aka /hence known as "The Cleavers" and Tom and Sherry had never met.  I told Larry to carry a sign that read looking for "Tom and Sherry".  I finally got ahold of Tom on the phone to see if he found them and he said "Guess what,...Larry was standing right nest to us with a sign with our names on it.  I thought...wait a minute...we're Tom and Sherry!!!

Then it was all about finding Bosco...he didn't show up.   I asked Sherry what airline and she couldn't remember but said it was not a big name airline.  From personal experience, I know that smaller airlines fly into terminal 2, like Jet Blue and Spirit.  (make a note of this if you are meeting someone) They finally found him and the 5 of them were headed to ABR.

I talked my way into ABR (poor Ernesto was so confused and tipped he just open the gate) to meet up with the gang.  The Cleavers were staying with Lucy and I at the condo so we needed to pick them up and say HOLA to others.   Vacation became a rush of kisses, luggage trading, and off to the condo.  It was Larry's 3rd? trip to MX but he has only stayed at the Grand Palladium.  June has never been to Mx but traveled the Caribbean.  After a quick unpacking and tour of our domain, we wisked them off to Lol-ha for Happy hour and dinner.  As I recollect... and I could be wrong... but I think this is more than likely!  I'll edit if someone who was there tells me different!

Then it was all about finding Bosco

Bosco pulled a bosco and was waiting at Terminal 2 for people to come out of Terminal 3.

I dont know why, but I ass-umed all passengers exited at the same place after immigration.

But we met and had quick-smooth trip down because, thanks to Twirls, we didn't have a make a pillow stop for Sherry and Tom.
Most people make food or liquer stops, Tom and Sherry make pillow stops. Thank god we didn't have to stop for shams and matching drapery.
jk you guys.

Jan, I am with you 100%  --  it's Twirl's thread, so she must get with the program !  Yes, it was she that had the near death experience @ ABR and must complete this tale. And yes, it was me that caused the two near deaf experiences in Tulum but Twirls must tell the story. After all, I had my hands full when I drove into the ice truck.   Sooooo   -----

2nd try   Pc or wifi is acting up

Hmm...left off with the rest of the gang arriving on the 30th.

I didn't go into detail about Cammie and Dung's departure early on the 30th but I swear I heard a promise of some sort on Doug's part!

Things are getting fuzzy as to what happened on what day (no wonder cause about this time into the trip I was electrocuted) . Bernie and I have gone over it, with cocktails in hand, via the phone.   It may or may not be in order but all is true.

The 31st we gathered up (all willing), Bernie and Bosco in his car and The Cleavers, Lucy; as navigator/tope etc. spotter, myself; as driver in our car and headed to find Froggy.  After a full visit of Tulum Pueblo we found her domain but no Froggy.  On to La Zebra on Tulum Beach.

I have been fighting with photobucket for an hour to no avail.  Something to do with my javascript...hmmm
I'll insert pics later.  We had a great time.  Nothing major happened that anyone recalls.  I know we did stop at Casa Cenote (for margaritas...(they are the best in those little shakers) on the way back to Akumal cause I remember as we passed the "drop the rope security guard" going north on the long Tankah beach road Mr. Cleaver said to me "Where are we going now and I replied "another beach bar!" .

Since I can't post pics at this time, I can elaborate about Casa Cenote, the restaurant. (They have cabanas etc too) We went twice. They do have great margaritas.  I usually order "top shelf" margaritas cause I like my drink to taste like something other than cheap tequila and lime.  Their regular margaritas taste great, cause Gary, the owner, appreciates a great margarita and is usually on premesis.  Casa Cenote's "top shelf" is cheaper than LBV and as good.  It's served in an individual shaker.  Love them!  Their food is also great.  We heard many brags from expats/locals about the hamburgers.  We went back for Sunday BBQ and it was also fabulous!  But thats another day and another story with other people.

BTW, Casa Cenote is locate about 2/3 of the way from Akumal to Tulum. 10-15 minutes?  Heading south, you have to take a retourno.  I believe its clearly marked both directions and also has a sign for "Blue Sky".    It does have a huge cenote that you can snorkel for  few pesos.  Didn't check this time so can't conform price.  Cenote bubbles under the restaurant area and into the sea and it is an absolutley beautiful & tranquil setting...with good drinks and food!

Glad to hear Gary is still doing well at Casa Cenote, he has sure had his share of problems with a couple of hurricanes over the years. I would love to go back for the Sunday BBQ especially since Tequilaville is no longer doing their BBQ. The view there is so good and always had good food. Thanks Holly
