"Insurance seems like a waste of money until you need it." YUP! Or you need it, and don't have it. Been there. I sure hope it all works out for you. Best wishes, with all of it.

ORIGINAL: lynne Oh Panesh, what a nightmare and I'm ss for everything you have had to go through the last couple of months. It might be a little different where you are but..from what I understand trip insurance does not cover any pre-existing condition 3 months prior to departure. I hope this is not the case for you and you are going to be reimbursed. Its always such a worry that something will happen and the piece of mind trip insurance brings is well worth it. Keep us updated on the results. I'll find out tomorrow but the way I read it was that the pre-existing condition exemption was for 60 days before you bought the policy. You can't buy a policy way after you bought the tickets and nobody can predict what will happen between the time you buy the insurance and your departure date. The coverage effective date would be the date of purchase in my opinion. Maybe someone here can interpret this correctly. I'm not an attorney and didn't spend last night at a Holiday Inn Express! (t) PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITION EXCLUSION: The Insurer will not pay for any Loss or expense incurred as the result of an Injury, Sickness or other condition of an Insured, Traveling Companion, Business Partner, or Family Member which, within the 60 day period immediately preceding and including the Insured’s coverage effective date: (a) first manifested itself, worsened or became acute or had symptoms which would have prompted a reasonable person to seek diagnosis, care or treatment; (b) for which care or treatment was given or recommended by a Physician; (c) required taking prescription drugs or medicines, unless the condition for which the drugs or medicines are taken remains controlled without any change in the required prescription drugs or medicines. It would be kind of pointless to buy insurance that didn't cover the time between purchase and departure. That's what the insurance is for.

Talked to Travel Guard this morning. No problem with the trip insurance. I just wanted them to pay the $100 per ticket cancellation fee but they are refunding the total airfare costs. It'll take a month or so but all is good. Just a note here, When you take out the insurance it will only be for the airfare unless you specify that you want to include lodging. You just have to be specific and you should have no problems. My total cost for the ins. was $54. Money well spent at this point.

I had a friend that went to Cancun for a fishing trip last year. While there he suffered a stroke, and obviously was glad to have insurance. He came a long way and was looking really good so decided he would go again this past October. Seeing as how he had a stroke, he was finding it hard to get trip insurance. He decided that he was going to go regardless if he got coverage or not. He was driving by BCAA and thought he would see if they would cover him. They did give him the coverage for $280 which was well worth it. While down there in October on some flats somewhere he suffered another stroke. Spending 3-4 days at the hospital in Cancun he was released and is doing well again. I couldn't imagine how it would have drained his bank account if he decided to go without insurance like he was going to. It's stories like these that make you glad that you buy travel insurance no matter what the cost. It's like the visa commercial says "don't leave home without it"
