The weather has been fantastic, but cool enough that a light fleece shirt feels good in the morning. Also, in the evenings and early mornings the mosquitos have been bad and as of yesterday there was no insect repellent available in either Chomak or El Pueblito, both completely sold out. This morning I will walk up to the Pueblo to see if I can find some there. You might want to bring some along with you if traveling soon. I stopped at Chomak on my way to the Pueblo and Chomak now has a few cans of Off spray and a few tubes of Off cream, but it's probably safer(and cheaper) to bring your own.

Thanks Badger - just got the bulk of my packing done and didn't think we would need that. I have added it back onto the list!

Yeah, when I went down to Xamach Dos I noticed the mosquitos. But they never bit me so I didn't really think about it. The funny thing is Hugo, who works there, gets eaten up by them. LOL! It's like being an albino lifeguard.

This might be what you are referring to: "Gin and Tonic was invented by the British in India as a double whammy against mosquitoes and malaria - the tonic is obviously citrusy which repels the mosquitoes but it also contains quenine which is a natural anti-malarial. The Gin just happens to combine very nicely with tonic. (i.e. just drinking tonic would have the same effect)."

quote:
ORIGINAL: Homecrew Are the mosquitos bad year around or is it more seasonal? What could I expect in February? I'm going to suggest that mosquitos (or as we called them in SE Texas, buzzards) are MUCH better in February. You see they breed in water and we are currently coming out of wet season, so you have more. Plus, it gets much windier in February so the tradewinds help. All that said, I've never been in February so bring some repellent anyway.
