Paul the gas is turned off at the small pet cock just underneath the gas tank. Last time I ran it I shut off the fuel and ran the carb dry so it would not gum up while sitting.
So once the gas is turned on it will take several pulls to get the gennie running. I always let it run for several minutes to get it good and warmed up, and then test all the circuits for power output.
Thanks for doing this buddy we appreciate it!!

I went to the Library yesterday to check out the generator and thank God for all of you who donated tools a few years back. The engine was frozen and we needed to partially dissasemble it to free it up. Needed to use the huge pipe wrench someone donated, and the socket set that Shane brought down,, but after freeing it up, the engine started on the first pull.
Gracias amigos.

Thank you Badger - sounds like the generator needs some regular maintenance. Being on the ocean plus no or little maintenance cannot be good!

Good job Paul. Was it being stored in a freezer causing it to freeze up? Did you try setting it outside to thaw out before taking it apart? You're a good man despite what Shifty says!

Yikes!! Thanks for straightening things out Paul.
It sounds like we're going to have to set-up a proper maintenance schedule for it so this doesn't happen again. It gets pushed back in that corner and kind of forgotten about and that's not good for it.

Thanks again Paul for being such a good friend to the library!!!

Way to go Badger! That might have been Juan's old pipe wrench. We brought a few tools down a while back, a couple of electric drills with batteries, but I heard someone stole them - rats!

Gracias everyone.

Forgot to say that the choke was also stuck and I had to fix that. I showed Jose how to start the generator and we agreed that it should be run every couple of months. Also left 100 pesos with him for fresh gas. It would be nice if someone could "smuggle" down a small bottle of Stabil to add to the gasonlina.
