I've only been to the Palladium (6x). This past May we were witness to several beach weddings. There is also a beautiful chapel within the grounds. I don't have kids but know there is a kid's club. No water parks though.

I have been to both resorts and prefer the palladium hands down for many reasons....from the natural atmosphere of how they integrated the resort into the mangroves...their environmental awards....the rooms....service and food. You can book a full suite in the Palladium which means Mom and Dad can have their own bedroom and have the privacy they need to enjoy their vacation while the children will have a pull out bed in the living room...and their own TV. Their is also the option of a friend or family member to stay with the kids while the newly weds spend a couple of nights honeymoon the Adults only section. We are looking for this as an option for my son and his fiancé and their 18 month old son. They really like the idea of having a couple days all to themselves after the wedding and my husband and I taking care of the grandson. They could still play with him during the day if they feel like it......but their dinners and evenings and morning can be spent alone.....enjoying a mini honeymoon as newly weds. I have stayed in a suite with my two younger sons and found a very comfortable way to share a room with them....they could get up when they wanted..watch tv....and my husband and I sleep in a bit if we felt like it......same for in the evenings...they would like to watch a movie....while hubby and I could sit on our balcony and enjoy a night cap and some adult time. The main advantage of the Palladium over the Barcelo is that aside from the Royal Yucatan adults only section...all areas and dinning is open to all guests regardless of where you are staying....along with no reservations for a la carte dining...which you can enjoy without limits. I believe the Barcelo limits the number of a la cartes you can dine at...you have to have reservations and you are limited to which restaurants you can dine in and bars you can drink at depending on the section you are staying in. Both have nice beaches...however I like the Palladium beach better. There is also more live entertainment at the Palladium...from shows....to bands and duets and solo pianists scattered around the resort every evening...you have a whole lot of options come sun down as to where you go to eat and drink...and be entertained. They also have a awesome sports bar...that serves finger foods and has pool tables and huge screen tv to watch what ever event is taking place. Palladium also has a free water circuit at the spa that all guests can enjoy...and I strongly recommend it. I love going there after a full day at the beach...to steam..soak and float...water massage my way through the course before getting ready for dinner.

I have been to both an my preference is the Barcelo. We have been to it 6 times. Both resorts are great and either will be a good choice. What I didnt like at the Palladium was the snorkeling, it is far superior at the Barcelo. I like the pools better at the Barcelo they are not as deep as the main pool at the Palladium which created a problem in getting drinks from the pool bar and walking on my tippy toes to get back to the area we were staying at. Did not like the slippery walk ways of the Palladium (raised wooden bridges) is the best way to describe them.
